New Everton Stadium

Sounds very feasible tbh..... LCC own the arena, just knock it down and incorporate within our new stadium......

That would be totally stupid.

The Echo and LCC attract totally different business and entertainment to the city than a large multi use football stadium would. When there is already empty dock lands the council would be crucified for allowing such a thing to happen. It's neither economically or politically sensible for the city or council respectively.

I don't usually do ITK stuff and have been following Esk's posts on this with interest, but heard something yesterday which puzzled me

A "source" (sorry, I know that's a bellend thing to say, but I can hardly name them on an open forum) mentioned in the last few days that we were in negotiations about Trafalgar Dock - that didn't surprise me at all, given Esk's posts. He also said our "Plan B" is King's Dock and that LCC have agreed, in principle, to development there. Now this one knocked me for six - not seen any mention of it anywhere and, as far as I can tell, there was no reason to lie. I simply don't understand how that one would be physically possible - is there enough room left on that dock to put a stadium on? Surely not?

Anyway, may turn out to be complete rubbish and apologies if it does, but thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone else had heard anything at all about this.

I would have thought that the ship has well and truly sailed for the Kings Dock option - but I suppose anything is feasible if the finance, the vision and the will is there. Demolishing the Echo Arena and clearing the site to effectively start again would surely put a fair old delay at the start of the project as well.

They wouldn't demolish the Echo Arena, there's no way. There's quite a bit of land next to the Exhibition Centre but whether it's large enough is another thing. Then you'd have to take into account the residents in the immediate area. I can't see it personally.

As I understand it, and I have been privy to some info, we are quite far down the line with discussions with Peel around Trafalger dock and it is looking very promising, however I have also been told that the Kings dock is a possibility if discussions with Peel fall through. I'm not sure whether this is being offered to force Peels hand as like everyone else I don't see much sense in it because of the arena

This is entirely correct, on the existing arena site. It is plan B though.

Funny how things start to happen when (a) everyone knows you've got money and/or (b) you have a major shareholder that gets what he wants!

;)

As surprised as anyone by this - guy who told me works in corporate finance (an acquaintance through work with no knowledge of Liverpool as a city, as far as I know), he mentioned this in the course of conversation, knowing I was an Everton fan. Assumed he was getting confused with place names given our failed move to KD in the past. Anyway, interesting, just nice to know that we have more than one plan and that at least two of them involve a waterfront site and nothing as horrendous as Kirkby, Stonebridge Cross etc

Interesting that. I take from that, LCC are the owners entirely of the land and arena itself? So there may be a chance it could be used as a bluffing technique with Peel?

Would imagine there would need to be something done about the arena? Unless the thought trail behind it would be utilising our new ground as multi-use?

Do you imagine this sort of information will begin to be leaked to the press sooner rather than later?

Finally, from your own opinion and nothing more, which of the two sites interest you more?

The queen opened the Conference Centre last week. They're not likely to knock that down, which they would have to do if they were to develop the Kings Dock to any sort of standard. The only bit that 'may' be available there will be the old Customs house on Kings parade, but that's sat on only 8 acres, which will not nearly be enough. I would be VERY surprised at any development of that site in terms of Everton.

Is it plausible to think that our Plan B of Kings Dock is aimed more at putting pressure on Peel to deal on the 'north docks' site at the price we want? If we didn't have a contingency there is a risk that Peel could charge whatever premium they wanted for the site and/or stall on the deal. We are in a nice position if we can threaten to walk away from an excessive price.
