New Everton Stadium

To be fair I've sat 5 rows back from the front in the FE and gotten a bit wet. If you think of the main stand roof how it's shaped and comes over the pitch, another 5 rows susceptible at BM wouldn't be too bad a performance.

Obviously we just know there was a lot of rain, how sideways it got will be the next question. I was at Wembley for the first NFL game and almost the entire lower tier of one end left to get out of the rain, so it's not just a problem with our stadium.

If you're at an NFL game and it rains you're going to get wet unless it's a dome. They play in subzero on rare occasions and people get frostbite. It's a rite of passage to lose your nuts at an NFL game cause you're too drunk to realize your balls have frozen off.

Not sure how many corporates would expect to get wet inside a new stadium, even at NFL games. They are usually set back, elevated and well-covered. It is probably the reason so many corporate seats are often empty at Wembley's half-way line.

Standing in the rain for a couple of hrs isn't great. Lots of old pics of the Gwladys St front section, the old Goodison Rd Enclosure (pre 1970s) and Paddock (pre-60s) deserted during a heavy downfall, as everyone crushed under the stands. However, sitting in the rain is abysmal and at £750m, shouldn't really be happening. Going the match shouldn't be an endurance test (Or at least no more than it already is watching us). Certainly not at the ticket prices.

This has been a recurring theme at many new grounds/stands due to the much higher rooflines, particularly with upturned roof profiles. Ponchos are offered at several. At the height of BMD's roof, these should have been at least extended to be directly above the touch/goal lines.... preferably even further infield. There is no interference with play at those heights, and natural light levels can also be maintained.

Bilbao were forced into addressing the issue at their waterfront stadium when fans in the lower tier regularly left ther seats en masse during downpours. Be interesting to see how the well-healed occupants of the West stand lower react.

Watched the latest drone videos over the last day or so and on one of them (the one put together by Luke) he mentions about a test event by which they'll be testing the evacuation procedures by having 50,000 in the stadium all leaving at the same time. He says this will be soon. Anybody else heard anything?

They won’t be getting 50k people in there for an evacuation drill.
Might have a test event where they monitor the dispersal at the end of it I guess, but even then unless it’s a biggish concert or similar they will struggle to get anywhere near capacity.

On a stadium related topic, is it just me or is anybody else curious to know what the camera angle will be like at the new place? Looking at some of the camera positions at the stadiums in Germany for the current Euros, I realise some of them I just don't like. Just too far from the pitch and too low down, a bit like the new Wembley. As behind the times as GP is, one thing I love about the place is the camera angle. Right on the touchline (well close enough) and at just the right height.

Personally I'm excited about the potential of there being a spider cam there at some point in the future. Great some superb angles on that.

Soon ? You can't have people clambering over a building site . I won't happen until LoR have handed over to the club. The stadium would need to be finished inside and out before it was safe to have a test event.

Hopefully won't bother me as I hate being low down near the pitch. But for those who do like those seats, if they do get a soaking is there a way they can add another bit to the roof like they did in Bilbao? I guess we can't be certain how the rain will blow into the stands until we've had a few rainy days at the new stadium.

Meant to look for the TV gantry when I visited it, but forgot. Remembered seeing it mentioned in the planning docs, but have never picked it out on any drawings, vids or photos since.

Just quoting what he said on the video. Not sure what he meant by soon. No idea where he got his information from, that's why I asked. Does such an event take place? Not talking about a soft opening with 15,000 etc but just a full blown, evacuation with 50,000?
