New Everton Stadium

We are 7669 pages in. I'm not sure if I'm the first person to say this, but it has been bloody good of United Utilities to lend Everton a decent chunk of their land for three years to accommodate the build.

Top lads for poo lads.
I still think we will have to rent that strip of land on match days. I know there’s smarter people than me whom have designed and created this lovely stadium but I also think with the amount of people on match days that small gap understand the stadium isn’t big enough to accommodate everyone safely

I often wonder what the future holds for UU especially with the drive for regeneration in the area.

It's going to look quite out of place in a few years time.

I'm quite sure they will be compensated financially for the inconvenience, plus Peel own the land, UU just lease it.

That being said, they could likely still have refused citing operational requirements or similar so fair play. Would have made the build considerably more difficult had that land not been available.

Taking that land on a permanent basis might be something the club look at it in the future to extend the North stand.

….even as a kid growing up from the early 60’s I’ve never understood why anybody would want to stand and watch the game. Each to their own I suppose but after the horror of the 80’s I’m of a view that if we are to allow ‘safe standing’ it should be significantly restricted.
I much prefer standing and always have, but partly may be due to my height and having to squeeze into a pretty narrow space.

I can't remember the last time our section in the LG sat down (and I mean in a literal sense, it must be years), and we feel it adds to the atmosphere and whatnot.

But it's a personal preference, and I appreciate others would think otherwise. If we implement safe standing correctly, we can accommodate both camps.

It can. I think i've mentioned before in here, there has been extensive crowd modelling undertaken. Plus, the area along the northern perimeter is much wider than it looks. Total width is circa 9.5m

….understandable, I was behind that goal at Elland Rd when Latchford scored. Worst was the Kippax, it was 10mins before I realised Hamilton’s goal had been disallowed. Memories but we can’t go back to those times.
I was behind the goal at Spurs in our championship winning season in 85, I would have been in my early 20's but very scary at the time. I went with my Dad and I saw him as we got into the stadium, then with the crush, I didn't see him again until I got back to the car! He must have been beside himself.
We were all fenced in and I think Spurs had to open up a section of the terraces that they had't planned to just to alleviate some pressure. The atmosphere was electric but I don't think I'd like to go back to standing either.

I take it you’ve stood on Goodison Road, or Gwladys Street, or Bullens Road immediately before or after a game?

That gap is bigger than those roads.

We won't be renting that strip, it will be completely fenced off. Whether there is an appetite to buy it off UU later on, we'll have to see.

There will never be open terrace standing again, which most should agree is a good thing. The standing we have will mean at maximum there will be one person behind you (more likely to be half offset), so you cannot be pinned to rail in front by a crush or suddenly be the equivalent of 5 rows up or down from where you once were.

The question with SS is do you want to be up on your feet all game. Like @PhilM has said above, the LG stands all game anyhow, but least I could sit down at half time. That will be the same thing as it stands, but that might just be for now. If they do increase the ratios and replace the seats for ones that can be locked in the up position, people won't get that choice.

Agreed it could be frightening at times but thrilling at the same time looking at a few responses i presume a lot will have been at Villa Park semi against Luton Sheedy last minute free kick another one that was a massive wave of fans to the front i do think back at the times this happened and wonder why several people weren't injured when you think of the kids sitting on the barriers , God is truly an Evertonian.

It's not a small gap.....it's at least the width of 2 large coaches and bigger than most of the roads around goodison.

Safe Standing is arguably far safer than what we’ve got already. It’s individual seats with bars infront, so there’s no surging or crushing from behind or infront.

The atmosphere at the ground has been diabolical overall for years now & if we can use that area for individuals who want to stand & create an atmosphere then it should be done.

Everyone who doesn’t will have fantastic seats around the stadium to sit and watch.

Does anyone know what the area in the lower west stand (above the dugouts and in front of the glass fronted hospitality area) is being used for?

It looks like there are wooden boards and comfy seats being placed there. I thought lt looked like the area where radio and other media outlets would be sitting. I know that the press people will be located at the back of the upper west stand, but they’re usually separate from
