New Everton Stadium

personally I think the ideal mix would be for the stands behind the goals (Both North and South Upper and Lower) to be standing and the rest seated.

I'm not sure what the upper tier sightlines are like in standing mode. Sightlines for stands are usually calculated for when people are seated only. When everyone stands, the c-value can reduce dramatically, and of course this is felt even more by shorter people, who's view can deteriorate significantly. Hence the reason why the views at several ground's away sections are so appalling..... when everyone stands. They simply weren't designed for it. Ofcourse, the steep upper tiers at BMD would help in that regard.

….understandable, I was behind that goal at Elland Rd when Latchford scored. Worst was the Kippax, it was 10mins before I realised Hamilton’s goal had been disallowed. Memories but we can’t go back to those times.
I ended up from about 20ft up standing below Latchford at Elland road as he was stood on the railings and yes it cant go back agreed but the hidden youth still hiding in me has booked to experience the yellow wall at Dortmund this year i need to somehow grow old gracefully

Does anyone know what the area in the lower west stand (above the dugouts and in front of the glass fronted hospitality area) is being used for?

It looks like there are wooden boards and comfy seats being placed there. I thought lt looked like the area where radio and other media outlets would be sitting. I know that the press people will be located at the back of the upper west stand, but they’re usually separate from radio and other media people?

Any info?

….even as a kid growing up from the early 60’s I’ve never understood why anybody would want to stand and watch the game. Each to their own I suppose but after the horror of the 80’s I’m of a view that if we are to allow ‘safe standing’ it should be significantly restricted.

I can remember reading a fan's letters page in an old programme from the early 70s (I know, how sad am I?). This particular fan wrote in to say that Everton needed a proper equivalent to Anfield's Kop at GP, as he saw that stand's popularity as a big draw on local youngsters at that time, and especially since the loss of the the old vast Goodison Road terrace (with the building of the current mainstand only a yr or 2 earlier). I think he even suggested knocking down the Old Park end, and building a large terrace at that end. It seemed to be a fair observation/proposal by the poster, but the reply by the club was also quite telling too. The club said that at that time, on average, nearly twice as many fans chose to sit rather than stand at GP (I think we had approx 24k seats out of 54k capacity at that time). Of course, a lot of that might have been down to pricing or the poor quality of view/matchday-experience from GP's terracing etc. That was approx 50yrs ago, and times have changed.... especially given the post taylor report, all-seater era. However, at the other end of the spectrum, old-fathioned terrace-culture is still very much alive and well. I was reading that Union Berlin are expanding their stadium from 22,000 upto 40,000, which will still be predominantly standing. So who knows.

If it's the area I think you're talking about, it looks like the "Loge" seating section. The high end posh seats.
