New Everton Stadium

Yes, my point isn't that I want our stadium to be like West Ham. It's that a team went from getting 28,000 to 62,000. We could easily go from 40,000 to 60,000. Anyone who thinks we couldn't, have had that fear drummed into them by Kenwright.
We could have filled a bigger ground for the first year or so, but unless we get challenging for silverware or the top 6 there`ll be a drop off in interest. In the eighties the ground held about 58k with standing room when we were top of the pile, but in a short space of time there were lots of games when there was plenty of empty seats in the ground. The reason we`ve been selling out this and last season is because we`re approaching the end of Goodison. If we continue with finishes in the bottom half and early cup exits, a 60k + stadium would have a lot of empty seats.
Anyway we`ll see how we get on filling 52K every game for the foreseeable future.

What's this meant to be?

The previous post was that West Ham get 65,000 a game.

It wasn't about whether they like the stadium or not or whether they can get to it from a tube station. Blimey.

When ever someone dares to have the forthright view of a bigger capacity someone shoots them down.

The original poster bought up West Ham not me which has a bigger capacity then BMD, all I said was bigger does not mean better.

I would like a larger capacity but it is what it is all I’m saying is just rival stadium is bigger doesn’t mean better

I'm trying to get your point, but you seem to be insinuating we have only been getting 39,000 for the last 2 seasons? We would be selling Goodison out this season regardless if it was the last season or not. I just don't buy into the fact that we will struggle to fill 52k. Some odd posts going about suggesting that we will be well below capacity for some reason after a couple of season at BMD.

You talk about our attendances in the 80s as some point of reference? Attendances right across football pre premier league was in grim decline, and even then we would get more in than most.

With absolute confidence, if BMD held 62k we would fill it every week for years to come. We have a 52k capacity as it is, and it will still be murder to get a ticket.

People seem genuinely terrified of a few blue seats on show for a League Cup match. Ambition, boys. Ambition!

Oh I see, Ped is talking crap, you wouldn't have to fill in the dock to do that, there's loads of room on Central Docks, peel would sell it to them if the wished to buy it.
And yes you're right, the water reflections are part of its charm. They would have no chance getting permission to fill another dock in anyway, especially as there's so much land available as it is.

Not that i'm interested in it myself (of an arena) Ped specifically referred to TFG or the club having one built in the adjacent dock - Nelson Dock. It's not the same as having a new arena built on the docks and as you say there's plenty of room at Central Docks.

Also on the speculation. Maybe it's just exactly that but what I read is that TFG looking to increase Everton's footprint at the dockland sites, most likely buying land around Nelson Dock (which doesn't hint at filling in the dock anyway).

Also separately saying they'd look at ways at increasing the capacity. Speculation or not I hope they do look at increasing the capacity even if it is something that will happen in 5-10 years. Have plans.

The best things come in smaller packages...as I keep telling my better half.

But, in all seriousness, 52k totally embodied Blues is much better than 60k plus disenfranchised 'tourists' who are there simply making up the numbers and, no matter what and despite their 'allegiances', don't really quite get Everton. Let's, hopefully, get some on field success under our belts and then we can consider the possibility of stadium expansion.

I`m happy knowing that with the increased capacity there`ll be plenty of extra seats from what we have now, and every one of them will give a great view of the game. There`s nothing worse than seeing a modern stadium on live TV with loads of empty seats, (like Arsenal and Wembley with fans not getting to their seats when the game restarts or Man City). There`ll be a great interest next season when we move in but if we don`t get our act together on the field the novelty factor of the new ground will wear off quickly and while we could still be getting bigger crowds than we do now there could be plenty of empty seats. We`d never come close to filling a 65k stadium if we continue being a mid table side hoping for a good draw in the cup to get some success.
I think that if you check back over a long number of seasons the attendance at Goodison has been at or near capacity.
All of this in spite of the total mismanagement of the club, selling our best players and struggling against relegation.

I have no fears about attendance in the future.

Dan Meis speaking on the subject of extra capacity

Ultimately, despite what he says, it would have been a financial decision and lack of ambition that resulted in the current capacity.

A 60k stadium with the same steep stands, pitch proximity and intimacy would have definitely fit on the site.

Despite reports, I think it unlikely TFG will look at expanding the stadium any time soon. More likely to increase the hospitality provision in some way first.
