The 52,888 capacity was estimated before the planning process was completed, but close to the end of the process the design was altered with the introduction of areas to accommodate wheelchairs at the front of the South Stand (not sure if the same for the North Stand). This must have led to a downward revision of the capacity.I thought that a late re-design in the plans, involving more accommodation for disabled supporters in both the north and south stands, was to mean a reduction in overall capacity.
