It would be an absolute disaster if our new stadium is to accommodate athletics in any shape or form.
I'd genuinely rather have our own stadium in SC than have to compromise and have a mixed use stadium on the docks.
No matter how they fit retractable seating, it'll never work as a football stadium.
Unless, of course, they're thinking of building a smaller, maybe 25,000 athletics complex at SC. Much cheaper than a mixed use stadium, and would be more appropriate to an out of town site.I'd rather not either but I cant see us building a brand new stadium then the council building one just for the games - it doesn't make economic sense as the stadium would cost a couple of hundred million, only to be left empty after the games. Unless Liverpool moved into it.
It does make more sense for the council and the cub to work together as both want a world class sports stadium for different reasons.

The commonwealth games are a bit pony really and certainly don't require a monster stadium.
Wonder if this has anything to do with our new stadium?
Sorry, but boxing and athletics are utterly incomparable.I'm of the opinion that Efc should be moving to a purpose built stadium - just as Goodison was. Not arsed about hosting other sports or events -Goodison Park has managed that more than competently in the past. As recently as the Bellew fight - I thought it was brilliantly set up and ran like a dream in terms of layout and crowd access. Stewarding operation was superb as well. Perhaps more than Anfield, I CBA researching who has hosted whatever other than togger.
The importance of a new football specific stadium increases for me personally as every international tournament and far-flung friendly fixture is featured - Some of the French and German stadiums seen recently are absolutely outstanding examples.

Really, really hope not.
Can you imagine a running track around the pitch ? the atmosphere would be ruined.
swerve
It wont have for the football, just like the one at City has now gone, easy to build a stadium that can have the front rows taken out in 2016, put it this way, that or Stonebridge Cross? No brainer really.
If they really are planning a serious bid its amazing news as it can help us a lot.

I go along with you on your post. Better to have one in the prime location but if there is to be a dual purpose then there should be contributory funding.
Yeah, see this is why it is good for Everton, money coming from more then one source. West Ham and City at the time, couldnt afford to build the grounds they have now, its a much better way of doing it and helps makes sure we can get the funding. lets face it we havent exactly got a goood track record when it comes to ground moves, and this once in a life time oppotunity can be made easier with more people involved.
Dont forget those games aint until 2016, if that land is gone to a football only stadium the bid is gone, they need an arena for it, and if Peel know letting us build a football only stadium there now will put an end to that games bid they will be less likely to say yes and the council less likely to help us.
The city putting a serious bid in for the games on that land is either music to our ears or were off to Stonebridge on our own, with another wasted oppotunity.
