New Everton Stadium

Does seem to be a bit daft to build a stadium for just football when there's a whole Games event just round the corner.

I appreciate it wouldn't be on to share with the Horrors but Wigan and St Helens aren't too far away are they? We could rent for a bit and put some money toward renovations? Maybe even sell another player like this summer?

Maybe we're thinking about this the wrong way round. Why build a stadium for a one time event to then change the permanent usage? Why not design a stadium for football and change it for a single event? Have all the track and field events on a 'false floor' built up till the stadium is wide enough on the concourses.

Would love to see any real evidence about anything that would indicate it's the docks.

Makes me bipolar this...one minute im like yers it's really happening but soon reality his in...

How about having sod all to do with the commonwealth games and just having a football stadium.

To try and accommodate a track, even on a temporary basis, is too much trouble.

what games are Liverpool wanting to host? I know the 2022 games have been allocated Pretoria so I'm assuming 2026. Depends a lot on Canada's intentions re throwing a bid in, but in the absence of their interest, you'd think Liverpool would have a good chance of winning.
I suggest the cladding going on at Goodison is more than a mere stop-gap facelift. We will be at GP for a bit longer than we think. Everton's new stadium intentions, will not be independent of the Games bid ( in my opinion)

The information I received was that Everton will go with their own design and meet their own requirements, a possible CG bid for games 10 years away would not influence their plans.

It's definitely a solution that can work, but the reason it worked as well as it did at Hampden Park for 2014 was that the stadium is already a big oval, so they didn't have to build up too far up to gain the area needed to fit a temporary T&F. The same goes for Los Angeles - the city's bid for the 2024 Olympics proposes a temporary track on a platform - and this can be easily done because the Los Angeles Coliseum, like Hampden Park, is a big oval.

I would assume Everton would want a stadium with seats close to the pitch and stands as steep as the law will allow i.e. NOT a big oval. If that's the case, the temporary "platform solution" will have to be much taller, and will reduce athletics capacity much more than was the case at Hampden as you'll be covering up more rows of seats. I would guess you'd lose the lower tier at the very least!

I find it hard to see a solution that really works for Everton and the Commonwealth Games. The 'best' one in terms of practicalities would involve waiting till 2027 to move in and building the stadium in the same way Man City did. But that's a long wait.

Intrigued to see what's worked out if your new stadium is to be part of the 2026 bid, however. Maybe I'm wrong and a platform could work, or maybe some crazy new solution could be found.
