New manager

What are you on about “kept Boro in the Prem twice”? When he took over they were coming off the back of a UEFA Cup final. That he took them from that position to relegation in just 3 years is actually hilarious.

Looking at it in isolation of your statement, it doesn't sound that great, but with extra context, he didn't do too bad as a rookie manager in his first job, especially starting in the prem.

They lost the vast majority of that successful squad (most of the defence) when Southgate took over, for £0. Hasselbaink, Job, Nemeth, Maccarone, Parlour, Doriva, Wheater, Ehiogu all on Frees, Queudrue for £4.5m and Colin Cooper and Southgate retired. They brought in Huth, Arca and Abel Xavier to replace the defence and Jason Euell and Dong Gook Lee to replace the strikeforce.

Next season they lost more of their successful squad in Yakubu, James Morrison and Mark Viduka and the season they went down, Schwarzer, Rochemback, Mendieta and Boateng all left. Only Yakubu bringing in 'significant' funds.

The dross they bought during them years (Luke Young, Aliadiare, Digard, Emnes, Hoyte, Shawky etc) to replace the above was the downfall, as well as the previous years' spending above Steve Gibson's means to bring success to the club, which they're still suffering for now.

He's a very different manager now, much more experienced for sure, but with a different style to those days. Until we see him again manage a club, no-one really knows how good he is or can be, as international management is totally different.

I totally get the dislike for England football on Merseyside, but I fully believe he'd command more respect than perennial relegation battler, gravel voice Dyche. I think Southgate would be better for the current squad than Dyche and Potter as he has a defensive grounding and understanding, but would allow a more progressive game than Dyche going forwards.

Not saying he'd be my choice necessarily, but to write him off without a chance because 'He got Boro relegated' and because 'anyone else would have won those 2 tournaments with that England team' is a bit basic in my opinion.

Anyone, long story short, he's not daft enough to come to this madhouse!

Course it will. We have no foresight, no risk, no imagination.

We make dull, predictable moves and then wonder why we end up where we are and much lesser clubs progress. Well they're truth is, we'll only get out of this circle of crap if we start thinking differently - but we never will.
I agree as a interim I wouldn't be averse to him in the short term. But generally I agree we need someone who can push us forward because we keep doing the same thing and ending up in the same situation, we need a coach who improves players and builds something I think Frank would be ideal but he is not coming mid season, some of the other names like Terzic or Fonseca are a risk.

So I just can't see TFG taking the risk where we are in the table right now the only thing that will matter to them is staying up, so who is the Ranieri equivalent in this situation? Moyes.

If it was just an interim and we didn't have the summer we've got coming up, I'd be inclined to agree mate.

However, Moyes wants a longer contract. He's said as much. He intends his next job to be his last manager's job. Also, we have very few players come the summer and need to be able to recruit, attract new players etc with the new manager in mind. A lot of that groundwork needs doing as soon as January ends.

Therefore we need to have our direction sorted. That direction should be forward thinking. Not really anything against Moyes per se, but we really need something different to break this club out of this negative malaise.

The new owners should never take advice from Everton fans when it comes to appointments. I remember Everton fans dismissing the likes of Emery, Howe, and Arteta in the past, calling it now Potter will be in that group in 1-2 years.

There are significant question marks around Potter and hiring him mid season would probably be too risky, but I believe he’ll do well at West Ham, and he would have succeeded with us if given the chance.

Oh I agree just my hunch is Moyes

There is deffo something in these Mourinho links.

His comments a few weeks ago and coming out again last week, it’s almost like he wants out of Turkey as soon as an opportunity comes along.
Ancelotti 2.0. Not the right reason to come here for me.

It's set up to be Duncan with Wayne as his assistant, possibly Rhino as Fitness Coach and Stubbs as Nutritional Expert. Bring back Jeffers too as Young Development Officer (YDO), and why not extend an invitation to Rodwell as Head Physio? While we're at it, Jose Baxter would make a fine Careers Guidance Coach (CGC).
We'd be needing plenty of his special brownies between now and the end of the season.
