New manager

He'd be ideal to come in and run the academy if we needed that position filled.
I think Carsley is ready. I think he can step up.

It takes a brave chairman/board who have vision on how the club wants to play and promote a positive playing style.

I look at Arteta and Arsenal, they found a coach who wanted to play a certain way and he has made the most of their academy and spent ok but I admit spent big.

I think positive football attracts better players also so having Carsley would help the recruitment too.

The big issue is Thelwell. Is he going to be the Director of Football who picks the next manager or is he the stopgap?

Good god noooooooooooo. Unfortunately some people have the platform to speak absolute trash at times. Even though I generally do listen to the podcast and agree with a lot of what they say but would be totally against this appointment and I’m surprised they have peddled Southgate if they have of course
Er… let’s get it right.

We didn’t ‘peddle’ Southgate as it is almost inevitable that his name along with Potter will be lazily linked should/when TFG choose to make a change.

Esk offered what he sees as positives were Southgate to be considered as the next Everton manager, our George wasn’t convinced and I was steadfastly against Southgate being considered.

Indeed. You were so adamantly opposed, I could almost hear you splutter when Esk made his case.

I don't agree with Esk on this - and I thought you made the case against very well - but Esk's argument was fairly put.

I just think we need to have more compelling reasons to appoint a man with Southgate's record. As you rightly pointed out, he does not have the track record of a "winner." I fear, given the players currently at Everton, Southgate would perform more like he did at Middlesbrough than he did with England.

Thanks for that 👍
And that’s one of the best things about TalkingtheBlues, that the three of us often have differing opinions and views, and are not afraid to voice them and then debate them in order to engage with the listeners.

We get a tremendous amount of feedback and comment, for which we are extremely grateful 👍👏👏

I enjoy your show - and appreciate your willingness to disagree with each other. I take huge amounts of what Esk says with copious cellars of salt - mainly because he has been so egregiously wrong about issues adamantly posited in the past (Usmanov selling shares, Kroenke buying them, PSR adherence last January, Kenwright leaving in June 2023, etc.) - but I tend to agree with his demands for professionalism, business-focus, and general competence. I like the contrast between his more corporatist approach and your more emotional man-of-the-people take. And George's Victor Meldrew act always gets a chuckle from me. He's not one for pretension, George, and doesn't claim he knows more than he does. Which is a good foil for Esk.

What comes across more than anything is that the three of you desperately want the club to succeed. Keep up the good work.

Much appreciated feedback mate 👍👍 duly forwarded to Esk and our kid 🙏

I'd like Carsley because I like Carsley but he would need huge backing plus a very strong backroom staff.

He works with youngsters and he is a modern coach.

If we could back him with 2/3 key positions, he could be excellent for us.

Carsley did well for England but it's International football. It's very different to the club game.

Oh, and by the way, Andy, if you are passing on any of my blather, let me just say fair play to Esk for bringing up the pricing of season tickets about a month or two ago. I thought he was pretty brave making the argument he did about the subsidies - because it's not a popular one - but I also thought his logic was sound and his position insightful. He's at his best, in my opinion, when applying cold business logic to the club's affairs - rather than prognosticating about what he thinks is going to happen (where he is regularly wrong, with inadvertently hilarious consequences).

Would you want Carsley if he had no link to Everton ?

If we lose vs Bournemouth, sack him immediately after the game, no fannying around, straight after.

New manager then has 3 home games, Brighton, Leicester and Palace.

Not easy games, but wont get much better, and if we have got a bit of money to spend, it would be nice for a new manager to have a look-in, with signings.

I don't even know how this fella could even be in the conversation.
His record as a club manager was crap ,He then got the England job because fatso got caught with his hands in the till and they needed a dullard who wouldn't rock the boat.
He was extremely lucky with the draw in major tournaments and even though he had a good squad of players every time they played a quality team he fell short.
To sum up its 100% no from me.
