New manager

I know that Potter transformed Brighton's football from unwatchable to pretty alright to watch. But it took him 3 seasons at a very good lead club, where he had trust and basically no pressure from fans and media to make that shown in results.

He got 41 points in his first 2 seasons, which is comparing to the 40 and 36 they had under Hughton not really an improvement.

Also he has his spells of very good form and then some of very bad forms like Dyche.
I think if you look at the Xg points table he was comfortably ahead of Hughton, first season approx 12 points, second season was approx 20 points. In his second season they had the biggest difference between points and XgPt and would have finished 5th on Xg. I basically think he had them playing much better football and creating more chances, he just didn't have the quality of strikers to take full advantage of the situation. I think he's got enough about him to keep us up this season and then we would be in a good position to build and develop the team. I'd rather we went for someone like him than Moyes.

My issue with Potter is I am not convinced his "success" at Brighton was his and his alone. Other managers have done just as well there since he departed. Heck, the German YTS kid has come in from their second division and has them top half. Was that because of Potter's legacy or was it because of the club set-up behind the scenes? I think the latter.

Nah, I think I'd like a little more unequivocal success before getting on board with a manager.
I know what you are saying, but he was tasked with changing the playing style to something expansive from Hughton's Dycheball. That's not easy to do and he did it and earned a move to a bigger club, although it was probably the wrong one for him. Brighton have been able to take his playing style and evlove it along some similar(ish) managers. We need to get to that stage.

I personally don't want another manager who will 'stabilise' things - we stabilise and then go backwards. We need someone to improve us and take us forward. Someone who can change us back to a club that are cable of playing some decent stuff. Someone who can COACH (shock, horror) players to get better. I think Potter can do this.

Sounds like we are close to PSR again and unlikely to be able to spend much in Jan and will struggle to pay off Dyche, so it will have to be a manager out of work. Of those available, I think Potter is the best choice.

Interesting quote from Swedish journalist, Frida Fagerlund, "Ostersund were very different. They could play 4-3-3, 3-5-2, 4-4-2. Potter would look at a squad, and look at the opponents, and then decide what he would do. He is so flexible, and I would say he changed the way football was played in Sweden."

He was able to vary Brighton's play quite a bit - even during games. He is a good coach.

My worry with Potter was always that he is such a quiet bloke that our fans would eat him alive. But we are so broken, so resigned to being utter turd, that we still have some fans who back Dyche. I think we'd all be relieved to see something positive, which I think he'd provide.

Agreed. I think the league is poor and he would keep us up with a couple of new signings. We need someone like him who is going to build a competitive team in the Premier League over a number of seasons.

I agree and don’t think Potter is all that. Drew a lot of games while at Brighton, so it’s like the results Dyche would expect to get if he pulled off his game plan all the time.
