New manager

Actually Ashworth was correct, as the DoF he should be choosing the manager, if he's being overridden by the owners then it's no different to what we did for years with Brands etc.

Can't stand Southgate but can bet united would be getting better results than they have under Amorim with him.
Southgate is Dyche in a waistcoat, I don’t think their results would have been significantly better personally, their issues run a lot deeper than just the manager.

Both weren’t great options. Amorim had all his success with a 3 at the back which United don’t have the personnel to play with effectively and Southgate is Southgate

Counter point would be if you give Southgate a team full of top players chosen for him would he be more England Southgate than Boro Southgate...

He basically goes into a managers role rather than a coach - England squad under him did seem to be bereft of the problems under other national managers like Venables etc.

Still think personally he's a crap manager but with a certain level of player he may restore stability at united more than constant gambles to get back the top instantly.

Interesting you mention this, its a big reason as to why I like Danny Rohl as he is an ex analyst and is very much about the details and having multiple plans and options to pick from, listening to some of his players they enjoy playing for him and his methods.

He has a lot of backgrounds as an analyst and assistant to one day become a good manager on high level. It's a surely a big risk to give someone like him a chance, there are many examples of good 2nd tier managers that have done a similar brilliant job and then failed on the highest level.

You went into the prem season with 4 Basque managers, 3 of them are doing a good job, Lopetegui didn't work out. This from a region that is less populated than Liverpool area.

For me the worrying thing is you have the financially best league in football, are the homeland of modern football, yet you don't have any good English managers apart from Howe in the league.

2 of them were righteously sacked, and you have Dyche that is lucky to still have this job.

Are there any promising shouts, if Potter or Southgate are the answer, then this is very worrying.

The task is different one, as an England manager he could personally pick the cherries, and England has individually one of the best squads in the world. You don't need to coach them to be good players, they are among the best in the world. You need to have a good tactics and able moderate this squad.

He won't have that luxury as a club manager, unless he gets appointed by City or Real Madrid, this won't happen tho.

Spot on mate, pointless him going to a club unless there's already a squad of decent players in place, we need an absolute overhaul.

More I read up about potters systems and methods the more I like him (can also see why maybe it didn't work in part with a group like Chelsea have of superstars when he took over)
Mental gymnastics- it’s a helluva drug!
