New manager

I know that Potter transformed Brighton's football from unwatchable to pretty alright to watch. But it took him 3 seasons at a very good lead club, where he had trust and basically no pressure from fans and media to make that shown in results.

He got 41 points in his first 2 seasons, which is comparing to the 40 and 36 they had under Hughton not really an improvement.

Also he has his spells of very good form and then some of very bad forms like Dyche.

Yeah no doubt he'd be a project manager - but given come the summer our situation as stands is this...

11-12 contracted senior players
Years of almost unwatchable negative football.
4-5 battling relegation seasons all year long in the last 6-7 years
No style of play and a ground down supporters
Owners who will want to invest but us e already talked up the need to strengthen through the academy and youth investment
New owners who whilst wealthy haven't got the money to just do a city or Chelsea and revamp it instantly.
A new stadium and fresh start.

If ever a club needed a manager who can be transformative then it's us, give me three years running of no relegation worry all season way more enjoyable footy to watch and seeing a style of play and younger players coming through then I'd take that right now as it sets you up for the long term sustainability all clubs need to succeed

My issue with Potter is I am not convinced his "success" at Brighton was his and his alone. Other managers have done just as well there since he departed. Heck, the German YTS kid has come in from their second division and has them top half. Was that because of Potter's legacy or was it because of the club set-up behind the scenes? I think the latter.

Nah, I think I'd like a little more unequivocal success before getting on board with a manager.

Tbf, I didn't know that word before.

You see in the prem, why Basque managers succeed, apart now from Lopetegui.

We are very obsessed with details.
Interesting you mention this, its a big reason as to why I like Danny Rohl as he is an ex analyst and is very much about the details and having multiple plans and options to pick from, listening to some of his players they enjoy playing for him and his methods.

Look at the team Potter first had at Brighton mate, he sure as hell can work with players you'd not expect to fit his system and get them to adjust to it.

In paper we have a more talented base than he had, you'd just need to add several players in key positions for him in January - I'd say three to the existing lot, we'd need two knew full backs for certain unless Potter trusted Dixon - which he very well might do. Likely a centre mid too unless garner and Tim are close to return.

Big thing about Potter for me is he's never ever been wedded to one system he constantly adjusted depending on the game and players he had.

Right now he's likely go so e variant if 3-4-3
Yeah people forget he took over from Chris Hughton. What I like about him is he could organise a team defensively and play good attacking football. If he'd had a good striker they'd have finished top 6.

The point I am making is that Expectations, rightly or wrongly, will be greater here.

If he's cussing fans out after post draw boos then he simply will not last here.

Issue is I'm not sure it's possible to find a manager in the modern game who won't have said something about fans at one club or another.

Could he handle the pressure, no idea, but can say the same about any foreign coach incoming also, or any coach really.
Silva, Koeman buckled badly under fan expectations as did Bobby - wouldn't have predicted it but yeah. Moyes to a degree got enough on his side early on with a lot of the people's clubs stuff etc and was very much insolated from exterior criticism by Kenwwrights media chums so a rare exception.

Just lazy journalism I reckon. But we'll never know
The people who know United a lot better than us were adamant that Southgate was Ashworth’s man, but the ownership pushed hard for Amorim *not sure if he’d left before Amorim was the main target, he may have fully left or been on garden leave at that point (which is a massive red flag in and of itself given he’d been there for all of 6 months)

The funny thing is though mate ,Southgate may actually be a way better fit at United than either Ten Haag or Amorin.

Ignoring him and going for the sexy foreign fotm has been disastrous so far.
Both weren’t great options. Amorim had all his success with a 3 at the back which United don’t have the personnel to play with effectively and Southgate is Southgate

Actually Ashworth was correct, as the DoF he should be choosing the manager, if he's being overridden by the owners then it's no different to what we did for years with Brands etc.

Can't stand Southgate but can bet united would be getting better results than they have under Amorim with him.
