New Stadium- How to size it?

"Obstructed view" does not necessarily mean one is sat behind a post.

Anyone sitting more than a few rows back in the Lower Bullens might be nowhere near a post but because of the overhang from the Upper B one loses sight of the ball when it goes about twenty feet in the air.

It is horrendous.

I have no doubt we would as near as darnitt shift over 55,000 tickets on a regular basis with a fit for purpose stadium priced reasonably and affordablly.

Excellent point.

We'd have no problem filling a 55,000 seater stadium if the tickets were affordable. But we need to build a Stadium that we are able to expand in the future.

Absolutely. When the Premier League was established in 1992, Old Trafford had a capacity of just 44,000 and was rarely full. It now has a capacity of almost 80,000 and is always full.

Who knows how high demand will be if we start winning trophies again?

Hi mate, 60,000 with the option to expand to 70,000 in the future.

That's a shame, I would have liked us to not rule out the possibility of ever breaking our record attendance.

I would have loved one day to see Everton hit the 80,000 mark and be the biggest and best supported club in England again but I guess that is now ruled out.

Only being able to expand by 10,000 also says that only two stands at the most would be expandable. Why limit our options?

You only have to look at when they make games cheap. Suddenly 15,000 people who never go to the match turn up, which tells you that 60,000 is the capacity they need to look at.

60,000 seats
No more than 5,000 "posh seats", because that keeps demand for the posher packages, and reflects the fact that Everton's fan base is mainly folk who don't have too much spare cash.
Free tickets for schools (particularly primary or 1st year secondary) for less well-attended games. We want every local kid who hasn't made their mind up to become a blue.

It's a fair point.

Also, the club must have certain deals with various companies/schools as it is and I am guessing the Universities too. Because all of a sudden we are selling out games weeks in advance even against 'less glamorous' opposition like Hull, and selling the Upper Bullens when these sides don't request it. I know Moshiri and Koeman will have influenced things to an extent but the results on the pitch still haven't been amazing (much better in the past few months obviously). I think Arsenal midweek was the only game that struggled to sell out and that was after 1 win in 11, and some obstructed views were priced at £46-£49 which was ridiculous in my opinion.

The more I think of it, if we make the pricing affordable which we no doubt will, suggestions of sub 55,000 are selling us short. 55,000-60,000 is the right amount for now.

Shouts of 80,000 are embarrassing though. We might 'want' to be the best supported side in the country, but we aren't and never will be.

If we build a state of the art stadium on the banks of the Mersey, the excitement amongst the fanbase would outstrip anything in my lifetime (including winning the FA Cup). The demand to attend matches would be huge.

We're currently selling out Goodison at 40 000, with all of its obstructed views, poor leg room and poor concourses (poor facilities all round for modern football).

An extra 15 000 - 20 000 fans seems very plausible to me, providing ticket prices are similar. We should go for 60 000 capacity.

Bang on.

Had a rethink and not quite sure where the 50,000-55,000+ expectations are coming from. We're not even selling out Goodison at the moment and what would be the point in having even more empty seats than we do already?

No, I think we should build the new ground with a capacity of 44,074 which is exactly 10,000 below the new Anfield. LFC are a good example to follow to base our new Stadium on as they've always lead the way with things like this in the City. If we increase the away end to 5 or 6,000 when the big teams come then I fully believe we will fill a ground that size though.

The fact that we have EVER sold out Goodison shows how big and how fanatical our support is. According to the club, over 10,000 of the seats at Goodison have obstructed views. Our new stadium won't have ANY obstructed views.

As an aside, West Ham rarely sold out the Boleyn Ground, which had a capacity of just 35,000. In contrast, their average attendance this season is 57,000.

New stadia attract new fans.

There's no way that Mr Moshiri will be so small-time as to build us a stadium that's smaller than that of Newcastle United.

BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME.

There's no reason at all that we can't fill 55k weekly, so 60k+ should definitely be the target, if not from day 1 then at least easily able to expand to that capacity.

Once you have the new stadium it will automatically attract a bigger fanbase. Virtually every club that has moved to a new stadium has shown this, and I believe the effect for our own club would be even greater than we have seen elsewhere, because we truely are one of the sleeping giants in terms of support, fanbase and spirit; no other club would have shown such resilience over the last 2 decades in the face of being left so far behind commercially by other clubs who we once stood toe to toe with.
