I’ve never really rated us when we’ve played 3 at the back, but I have more faith in our current defenders not to melt and concede 4 goals.
I don’t imagine Lampard would go anywhere near this but given how toothless we’ve been in the last 2 games I’d give this a try at the weekend.

The midfield may have more mobility than last season but there’s still virtually no creativity in it. The lack of ability to pick a pass out is more than worrying. I’d be giving Garner a go on Saturday.

I really like FL and of all our recent managers I really hope he turns this around but lessons will have been learnt (you hope) that stalling the inevitable creates worse problems. I'd say he has two/three games max. It's not that we are losing - it's the fact that we don't look like getting anything out of the games. Pretty dire situation in front of him.

Burnley would have had a few efforts on target and put that lot under pressure. The Southampton’s and Fulham’s of this world would have had more attempts on goal than us. Wtf is wrong at our club?

How can you be carded for simulation when there is contact!

He was poor, but he didn’t stop our players shooting or playing the wrong pass though.

We might miss Patterson, but he's not the reason we are so dreadful. We have no forward line, no attackers. This is what I find astonishing. It's an absolute liability from the club. We can take this back to Lukaku but definitely with Dominic Calvert-Lewin being out at the start of the season we needed reinforcement pronto! We've relaxed our sphincters believing we have enough fire power in the squad. They are absolutely horrendous! This is not how we should be. No shots on target again! Just shocking. There should be accountability. There should be a price to pay. I'm fuming. My last straw with these.

The attacking players are completely isolated

There is no support coming from the midfield runs or wingbacks

Tactically it’s a shambles

Well where to start? On the plus side we only got beaten by a goal that the commentators would cream their knickers over and call a "world class strike" but was in effect a speculative lob from outside the area that got lucky. Apart from that, did Jordan have any saves to make? There were 2 or 3 shots wide of the posts, and one close in header he pushed around the post, but nothing dangerous. We need to try the speculative lob from outside the area approach ourselves, instead of trying to run through 3 defenders, maybe that way something might fall into Dom's path.
The referee was Premier League standard - poor and inconsistent.
Newcastle is full of big hard men who collapse in a weeping heap at the slightest touch.
Newcastle fans have to be applauded for their staying power, keeping up their pathetic booing every time JP touched the ball, right up to the final minute.

Anyway on to the MoM. I was torn between Tarkowski, Coady and Onana and plumped for Onana in the end. He looked to be our most threatening player overall. A 1-0 defeat away at one of the PL high flyers isn't the end of the world, although I would have liked to see a few attempts on goal!!
