Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

City were taken over by Sheik Mansoor of the UAE, noone has been taken over by anyone in the same ball park since then, not even close. It's not really very fair on any takeover since as it's like comparing apples with pears.

While I agree with your point on money not being everything, we've proved expert at wasting it - we're unsurpassed at that and others could do the same, it has to be a well managed progression from nobodies to the top table.

Even City had to go through the stages of progression, Mark Hughes and statement signings Robinho, Jo, de Jong, Bridge, Bellamy, Adebayor and Carlos Tevez until they replaced him with Mancini, Pellegrini and now Pep Guardiola.

No club can transform overnight and it will take years and mistakes even under the best scenarios for them.

The Saudi's PIF sovereign wealth fund however is the largest in the world and although they face barriers, not least the notorious and now largely discredited FFP monster - an unwanted legacy from Michel Platini, they have a far better chance than anyone since City by some distance

- In finance terms this puts them in the European super league and nowhere near the bottom of that either.
Don't the Saudi's have much more cash than Mansoor? They will want to crush Man City, just out of principle!

Newcastle to sign a 1Bn shirt sponsership deal with Saudi Aramco, perhaps?

Saudi Arabia's ruling family would certainly be in the very top echelon of the mega wealthy.

If they're all on board with it (which is yet to be seen) then they'll use their investment arm PIF sovereign wealth of Saudi Arabia to invest heavily in the club. So much is in doubt atm though as Catcher in the rye's posts have alluded to.

We'll have to see who is actually appointed to the board and who actually runs the club - how much will PIF actually be involved?

I rather expect it will be rather more than Catcher expects, the Saudis have been looking for a way in to the premier league for some time now and although initially they may be circumspect given the straight jacket of FFP (it really has to be reformed), I expect investment to steadily increase through the initial years and perhaps when allowed, massively.

We'll see.

It'll be kind of worth having them take over Newcastle, as the Man Utd fans have been desperate for them to buy them. Will be funny if they start getting gazumped for signings by Newcastle, while Ed Woodward continues to work his "magic."

SUnderland fans will also be having kittens ;) :Dlol

If the Saudis buy Newcastle it will be another major rival. I mean, Newcastle have a massive support, and they will have money to burn.

Usmanov doesn't seem the type to shy away from a fight, if he did he wouldn't have bought us. The more half decent clubs the better as it will force us to move forward and if everyone can beat everyone else on a particular day then you might only need 80 odd points to win a title. Much more obtainable than requiring 100.

Saudis are much richer than Usmanov. They are literally drowning in wealth!

Ashley isn't selling the club to Saudi Arabia. This won't happen, it's a smoke screen to cover him not pulling the furlough of the non playing staff.

It's the same story every single time he has a issue at the club. When he is being pressured into spending money , staveley and takeover is rolled out now .

Remember kenwright doing that season renewal time every single year ?

Exactly the same thing with Ashley. He ain't selling Newcastle to the Saudis. Quote me on it.

And yet, they'll still only be Newcastle.

Much the same as the United Arab Emirates only invested in perennially underperforming City - who at the time of takeover had been in the third tier in recent memory.

United fans and Sir Alex joked of 'The noisy neighbours' how stupid could Sheik Mansoor be investing in such a basket case?
