Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Mad how they never even came close to winning a cup in their glory days of the 90’s and early 00’s under Robson. Leicester won the League Cup twice in that era, Middlesbrough won it, teams like Bolton and Villa got to finals. But where were Newcastle in all of this?

Personally I think those Newcastle teams were actually massively overrated looking back.

Yeah, you're probably right. They did seem to be media darlings even before they got promoted back in 1993. Bit like a less classy version of Spurs. They did have some good teams but could be very up and down. Got totally outplayed in the two FA Cup finals they reached.
They seemed to have settled into a role similar to us in the 1990s: a turd that hangs round the lower end of the table but won't quite flush. Well, apart from the two recent times they went down!

Into week 8 we go.

Once these things go over 4 weeks, it tends to mean you've got problems, often related to the funding. If this is serious it gets signed off in two weeks.

We were told Poch would be hired and in place now. I'll await my judgement in this, even if it goes through. It's a million miles from Chelsea and City.

To be fair Newcastle had some good teams in the mid 1990s with some top players like Shearer, Ginola, Ferdinand, Cole, Hottinger and Asprilla. Probably only an outstanding United team stopped them winning the PL. They went off the boil but we're pretty good under Bobby Robson for a bit. Pretty much pants ever since though.

Think they won a UEFA Cup in about 1969 and that's about it. Mostly rubbish since the 1950s except for those Keegan and Robson periods.

And they seem to be a retirement home for dodgy RS twunts: McDermott, Dalglish, Souness, Rush, Barnes, Venison.
