Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Why isn’t it a place top players want to go? If the money’s there, players will go. Probably have said the same about City years ago, Liverpool too. Blackburn etc etc, I reckon Newcastle would be attractive to a buyer, especially at 350m, fantastic stadium with big crowds. Mosh bought into us and then Is gonna have to spend another 500+ on a stadium. 350 for Newcastle sounds like a snip. They are a big club, their following and stadium is big. What’s the definition of a big club? Do they have to have won something? If so, what time frame and when does the timing of the last trophy expire to disqualify them from being a big club? They might not be one of the traditional big clubs but they are, by no means, a small club.
Different era now mate compared to when Blackburn were a top team. You will have to pay through the nose even more than you normally would for players to go Newcastle over the other big clubs. They have always struggled to get top top foreign players. It’s a big club who are very well supported. Support means nothing though, it’s on the pitch that needs sorting out. I just can’t see it taking off.

They are. They are in the Prem and have been for years, for a start, whilst Villa have been floundering, Newcastle have bigger attendances and larger revenues. Is it because Villa won something of note over 35 years ago? Are they forever a ‘big club’ because of this?
We tick more boxes than Newcastle do. Newcastle got hyped up by sky. Go back to when Merson said villa were a bigger club than Newcastle and some soccer Saturday members scoffed. If Merson had said the same thing at the start of the prem then no one would have batted and eye lid because it was obvious we were a bigger club. Now tell me what Newcastle have done since the start of the prem to make them a bigger club than villa. At least we’ve won a couple of trophies. We’ve also finished in the top four twice but at the time the top four never went into the champions league. Leeds are bigger than the mags.

I dont buy the stadium tbh, these guys have a bottomless pit of cash.

As a neutral buying a club and building a top class stadium on the docks as part of a massive regeneration project in a well known stadium whilst having the glamour of future title challenge derbies and local rivarlies with the Kopites and Manchester clubs for me makes more appeal than buying a club in the arse end of the country where no superstar wants to live.

I get Newcastle's appeal to an investor however if you want to make another Man City I would say only Everton, Villa and maybe Leeds would appeal to me.
As it happens I’ve been having this debate with my mate who’s a Newcastle fan. It’s just not a place players want to go to. I see the appeal but wolves have more appeal at the moment .

Why would an investor put his money into a Club and then have to pay another 1/2 billion out for a new stadium? Money that could be spent on buying players for a club like Newcastle to make them compete. They already have a great Stadium. Buy into us, spend millions on players to make us compete and then have to wait years for the Stadium. FFP would play a part too. We’d be treading water until the new stadium would be complete. Then revenues, sponsorship deals etc etc would take us into the big time. Newcastle have head start on us. At least a year start on us.

They have played in the Championship twice since the Prem was formed. They’ve played in the Premie League for 24 of the 26 years.

Villa have played in it for 22 of the 26 years, not really a chasm is it.

If Birmingham was a one club city, their support would dwarf Newcastle’s as well and their stadium would probably be bigger.

Hahahahahahaha

From what i heard and read is States want to buy clubs with the City name, the location as the club name is what atracts them and it's all to do with marketing purposes.

Qataris who own Paris St Germain want to buy a stake in Leeds United.

Saudi Leader wants to buy Manchester United.

Them across the park have had the Chinese try 3 times to buy them, This guy who wants to buy Newcastle failed last year, the Sheikh of Dubai (twice) and the older brother of the city owner who's the defact leader of the UAE also tried to buy them about 2 years ago. Look at Wolverhampton and both Milan clubs owned by the Chinese state owned conglomarates.

This really is a superb multi.

Villa are a big club, I don’t dispute that. At this present time, take away history, Newcastle are a bigger Club than Villa. Historically? Of course not. It’s just this, ‘who’s a big club’ argument. Are Bolton a bigger Club than Newcastle? Historically, they are, not now. Are Wigan a bigger Club Leeds? They won the Cup not long back so yes they are (they’re not) What makes a big Club? Fan base? Honours? History? Financial power? It’s an argument that can never be won. But at this present time, The Mags are bigger than Villa.

IF Birmingham was a one club city, their support would dwarf Newcastle’s as well and their stadium would PROBABLY be bigger.

I didn’t say it was a chasm. Ifs and probables don’t do your argument much good though.

That was supposed to say a 5 year start on us!
