Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Are Newcastle now everyone's favourite team to hate? The days of Keegan are gone. Now it's gonna be about their d1khead insufferable fans and owners who like to commit crimes against human rights

They maybe can do it, but spending that sort of money would mean that they wouldn't be able to spend in future windows due to the costs of acquiring £500m worth of new players. We didn't spend anything near that but are now unable to spend much due to the costs we incurred.

You have to amortise transfer fees over the course of contracts. You also have to pay huge wages if you want to spend £500m on new players. I'm not sure how sustainable that model would be for any more than 1 or 2 seasons.

We've spent £500+mill over 5 years under Mosh. £255mill net. Wed have up to 5 players on £100+ a week on the books. Hit by covid and have a new stadium to build. We have doubled our commercial revenue though.

Youre right in that...unless their commercial revenue spikes quickly, their sponsorship jumps from £6mill a year to something ridiculous, they won't be able to carry loads of £100k a week players over a number of years.

But no doubt they'll make it work.

They will be able to spend plenty, but £500m in a single year is pie in the sky. It's not going to happen. £500m net over 5 seasons even seems a stretch. If you are writing off £500m over a few years, then your losses are going to stack up quickly.

The issue with Newcastle is that what they spend in total is going to be close to their net spend, because they only have one obvious high value asset - Saint-Maximim. And I presume they will be keeping him now anyway. Again, lots of parallels with us, although I do expect us to sell Richarlison soon for a very big fee, and that will help us spend again.
