Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

More from RAWK- apologies but it is fascinating what this Newcastle takeover has done to our lovable neighbours:

I wonder if some sort of transfer chit system could work.

Basically every club is awarded, say 100 chits for being in the country's top league. They can earn more chits for winning things. Maybe 50 for each cup and another 100 for the CL and a very few more for finishing positions in the league.

These have no monetary value and cannot be bought. These are then used as transfer currency.
There would need to be some kind of sink so that chits go out of the system at a similar rate to that in which they come in, or chit inflation would get silly. Maybe team it up with a salary cap, but you can 'buy' more cap space by trading in chits in the transfer windows. Maybe also have it so that you have to spend them within a certain amount of windows or they expire.

Dunno. Probably a stupid idea. I'd just prefer that a sport be a meritocracy instead of what it has become.

He is talking chits.

The horse punchers can spend 200m over the next 3 years under FFP. They are generally a bigger disaster of a club than us, so can see them spunking that pretty quickly on absolute dross.

Barcodes being Barcodes, I think it is likely we will all be ? ing sooner rather than later.

There is ever possibility they will be relegated this season and then it won’t matter how much dough they have, world class talent won’t be signing on to play in the Championship.

They have a tough looking run of fixtures to get through before the cavalry arrives in January. However, I am sure the optimism around the club and new manager bounce will seem them pick up the required points

He just prefers sport to be a meritocracy after advocating a system that keeps those who are good at the time the system comes into play permanently at the top. Ok.

The one cause for hope in all this I see is that Newcastle might have a bottomless pit of money now, but they are still Newcastle...I mean, geographically they cant make themselves 'not Newcastle'.

Players can be offered loads of cash and promises of trophies...and that's a big draw for the bulk of players....but the elite, the type of players City and Chelsea and PSG and other nouveaux riche clubs have bagged, have lifestyle in mind as well. The North East of England isn't a draw for those type of players. It's the wilderness. They might snag the odd superstar in the twilight of their careers looking to get a kings ransom for their pension fund for a season or two's work, but they wont get top players at their peak.

But you can move a franchise if the opportunity arises. Legacy fans, shmegacy fans.

You can never say never but we are a prime example why you shouldn't go scattergun spending. Buy in big name players on mercenary terms then you should understand they will be first to go hiding when the war starts.

If they go down that route I will be laughing my tits off.

That'd be the only way around the obvious problem of Newcastle United being in Newcastle.

It's not going to draw the elite. There's f.a. there and its a hell of a climate they have. Imagine trying to entice the very best in world football up to that 'kin place!

Our problem was that we had Moshiri in charge for it. His choices of manager and DoF killed us. It isn;t the act of spending as such, it's how it's spent...which means ultimately WHO its spent by.
