Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

With a City that size and only one team to support they should be selling out every match. They of course would tell you they sell out home and away every game, but over the last 5 yrs at Goodison they only seem to muster around 500-1000.
That's to many for my liking.
For such a sound city
I don't know what gets into them at the footy, absolutely kopite, semi Rangers/Celtic vibes about them,
They do my head in.

Aye it’s weird. Used to work there and basically if you don’t talk football you won’t have much to talk about. It’s a one city team with very little diversity so they all keep thinking they’re this huge sleeping giant and as no one is disagreeing with them so they all believe it more and more. It’s quite something,

It's an echo chamber. Same as the RS. The RS struggle to talk football with other fans, because they hear opinions they don't like. Instead, they stick to their own and it quickly becomes a deluded echo chamber. Newcastle are the same, they've convinced themselves they're a huge sleeping giant.

The one cause for hope in all this I see is that Newcastle might have a bottomless pit of money now, but they are still Newcastle...I mean, geographically they cant make themselves 'not Newcastle'.

Players can be offered loads of cash and promises of trophies...and that's a big draw for the bulk of players....but the elite, the type of players City and Chelsea and PSG and other nouveaux riche clubs have bagged, have lifestyle in mind as well. The North East of England isn't a draw for those type of players. It's the wilderness. They might snag the odd superstar in the twilight of their careers looking to get a kings ransom for their pension fund for a season or two's work, but they wont get top players at their peak.
And there is the WAGs that have to be persuaded.

Non-league is great, haven’t got to as many games as I would like to since it started back up. Wish my team played at a proper non league ground rather than a rugby ground where they shove you in a corner of one stand and aren’t allowed to drink in your seat.
That sounds horrible. One of the joys of proper non-league is being free to move around and watch the game with a pint in your hand.
