Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

The one cause for hope in all this I see is that Newcastle might have a bottomless pit of money now, but they are still Newcastle...I mean, geographically they cant make themselves 'not Newcastle'.

Players can be offered loads of cash and promises of trophies...and that's a big draw for the bulk of players....but the elite, the type of players City and Chelsea and PSG and other nouveaux riche clubs have bagged, have lifestyle in mind as well. The North East of England isn't a draw for those type of players. It's the wilderness. They might snag the odd superstar in the twilight of their careers looking to get a kings ransom for their pension fund for a season or two's work, but they wont get top players at their peak.

They’ll get used and abused by the big name agents to offload names to start with.

Rubin and Staveley are attention seeking clowns and I can see the Saudis getting shot of them once they’ve got their feet under the table.

Staveley yes, but Rueben would be of use for buying things in the area.

As for them getting gouged, probably though it will depend on who they appoint. If it’s Conte or someone of that ilk then they’ll burn fortunes, but there are saner options.

Our problem was that we had Moshiri in charge for it. His choices of manager and DoF killed us. It isn;t the act of spending as such, it's how it's spent...which means ultimately WHO its spent by.

It's not just us Dave, look back at all the nouveau riche clubs, Chelsea spent millions in the 90s with only a few trophies to show (less competition remember though) before they got Abramovich in. Remember he started from a team that were in the CL. City spunked loads of cash under Shinawatra without any financial restrictions.

When you start from 11th you're not going to get the best straight in when we couldn't do what city did with Toure and made him the highest paid player in the prem at the time. Get one star in, and the rest follow. We would have failed the FFP regulations and risked doing a Leeds if we had gone down that route.

As the saying goes you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs and it's completely unreasonable and unrealistic to think you can build a whole new team without making mistakes. Walsh and Koeman were responsible and were fired at great expense for those errors. We are still paying for those but the situation is a fair bit better than it was when we had Sniders/Bolasie/Walcott/Williams/Rooney/Sandro et all draining the lifeblood out of the club.

Can see them going for Gerrard.
Christ I hope so. Think he’s done ok at rangers but has no experience of a relegation fight.
If they’re smart they’ll look at a safe and steady option instead of trying to go all Hollywood straight away like we did.
You’d think they have someone lined up already if they mean business. Will have a fair idea of how things will play out long term in the next couple of weeks.

FWIW Chelsea are a fantastic example because, but for the second coming of Mou (and him binning off more than half a billion pounds worth of players), they’d probably not have spent much at all these past five or six years and would have won even more than they did.

They have now sold out their game Vs Spurs on the back of the announcement. This is the dawning of a new era....
With a City that size and only one team to support they should be selling out every match. They of course would tell you they sell out home and away every game, but over the last 5 yrs at Goodison they only seem to muster around 500-1000.

This lot make Alisher and Fahad look like paupers.

Let’s hope they wipe the floor with Man sh*ty.

Must say Staveley looks like a right shifty sort. Plenty been there I reckon.
