That's not how it works friend. People can get arrested and be in jail for a year and then be released with no charge. No compensation. Just how the legal system works.

He was arrested, for suspicion of whatever offence he was alleged to have committed, interviewed and then bailed on police bail, whilst the police conduct their enquires, who at the end of their enquiries, present their findIngs to the CPS, who then decide if their is enough evidence for a realistic chance of a conviction or not.

This can and does sometimes take a long time.

Defamation etc are civil matters not criminal.

If the complaint was found to
be vexatious or malicious, the complainant could then be arrested for perverting the course of justice etc.

What conor is doing is speculating that this guy must have done something because - yaknow, no smoke without fire or something...
This kind of speculation will plague this player for the rest of his life. A steep price to pay for a guy who had all charges dropped after a two year investigation.
They spent two years trying to bring a conviction but couldn't.
I'd imagine his personal and professional life are destroyed forever.

I suspect the player and his club would be seeking compensation.

Who would get sued? It's the police's job to investigate allegations and they have done so. Arguably could've reached a charging decision quicker, but other than that they've done nothing wrong. If they were forced to pay compo to everyone they investigated who they decided to not charge the criminal justice system would collapse.

It's been a deeply unfortunate situation all round but I'm not sure much can be done about it now.

He can't claim lost salary from Everton and they can't claim for loss of an expensive asset. Everyone loses including his family in Iceland. Imagine how they feel in a tiny community like that.

The club did the right thing suspending him pending the result of the investigation.
They should also do the right thing now and have him back at FF training.
I'm not sure what the rules are re. registering free agents mid season but he should be brought back.
