News of Ex Players

Leaving aside the merits of his case and the distress for both parties - looking at this from a FFP pov: I hope the commission are taking in the fact this has hugely affected our ability to get cash for one of our most expensive players ever...and also necessitated the club paying a lot of cash for a replacement.

I totally agree mate. However, the point is that due to people knowing his name and (allegedly) some circumstances he will wrongly be labelled in a certain way.
He'll never shake off the accusations.
I'd have him back, think he's got another season in him were he could contribute
I don't want him back, but he'd be a far, FAR more useful signing than those lunatics wanting too top up James wages for about 80 minutes of football.

100% - between the remaining book value and his salary this affair has cost us 10-15m in 21/22, the year they are investigating. We will presumably be petitioning strongly to have this deducted for P&S purposes.

I can't imagine the PL would have too much issue with this - it could happen to any other club in the future and we did the right things to protect our reputation and that of the league.

He might show up in some remote football corner of the world. But why should he? He is probably a millionaire. Feel sorry for his kids in Iceland, assuming they are there.

This will most certainly be a huge thrust of our case.

Frankly, given this outcome, we have been absolutely screwed over here. I really hope we were told we had no option to do what we did (suspend the player) and we didn't simply throw the player to the wolves unlike the current league leaders who have continued to feature a player currently being investigated for rape.

Yep. Wages + lack of fee + fee for replacement...what's that? Way in excess of between £15M to £20M, surely?

They also should be giving massive emphasis on our sponsorship cash disappearance.

I cant imagine that scenario.

The club would have been advised and the PL would have applauded it for helping protect 'the brand'.

Well, leaving aside the potential injustice experienced by the accused, you'd hope that the PL will be keen to acknowledge our assistance - however self-interested - when the time comes to dock us points or not.

He was never arrested was he ?

I'm sure there'd be case's for defamation of character , loss of revenue and loss of an asset.
He was arrested and then bailed until now.

Firstly obviously not enough evidence doesn't mean that he didn't do it. Do you really want to live in a society where people who are criminally accused of things can sue the would be victim because there isn't enough evidence even though it might have happened? Given we know nothing about the case, don't know how we could be so sure it's a false allegation.

Secondly accuser hasn't been to the media or on socials, the accusation has come through through the legal channels so there would be no defamation of character. Unless there is clear evidence the accusers allegations were completely untrue and made maliciously, there would be no criminal action against her. And even then considering they are underage that's even more unlikely.

I actually think the PL will be very reluctant to harshly punish us for P&S, knowing the City case is looming and a number of other clubs could be in a similar position in the next few years.

Something like this could be the get out they need: allowing us to write down our loss to compensate for this would be the right thing to do (since we did the right thing) and might also mitigate our P&S position just enough to allow them to deal with it in a less severe way without much of an outcry.
