Arsenal fans have long said that Usmanov would be the answer for them compared to Kroenke, because he has publically stated he would back the team financially etc, but those who want Kroenke out and Usmanov in are also the same group that want Wenger out, so they seem to ignore anything that Usmanov has stated on the subject - which is all pro Wenger btw, and just go with the line that he'd back the team and change the manager - which he has never once stated would be his aim to do...

from april last year

“I do not think that the coach alone is to be blamed for what is happening,” Usmanov, 63, said. “Some continuity is needed. This includes the need to prepare a successor for Wenger, but in a very respectful way. I can suggest that Wenger himself can prepare a successor.”

from june last year after wenger signed a new contract

A statement read: "I am pleased Arsene Wenger will continue to manage Arsenal for the next two years - he is one of the best coaches in Europe. "What is now of paramount importance is that he receives the full support of the board and the majority shareholder. "He has a great opportunity to deliver the success that the fans deserve and the legacy his long contribution merits. "However, without the right support there remains a real risk his legacy will be tarnished. If the support is not forthcoming we stand ready to step in and do everything we can to deliver success on and off the field."

I think the main focus of those two statements is a lack of financial backing from Kronke
Usmanov was taking the opportunities to have a go at Kronke and to put pressure on him to sell , which he won’t

Honestly can't think of a manager less suited to what we need than Wenger.

We need fresh ideas, a motivator, somebody that people believe in, and somebody to do a full root and branch overhaul of the whole set up. A 70 year old who's been trying to play the same way without success for years, and has failed at his brief for a number of years despite having much better resources than we do is absolutely not the way we need to be going. I wouldn't be surprised if we were after him, but I would be very very disappointed.

I get that mate, I’m just saying what the lad on site said. He said been going for since the 70’s and goes in one of the corporate boxes now. He was pro Wenger himself, but he thought it was time for a change. He probably is as much ITK as me about Everton (I’m not at all), but that was his opinion.

Do you think Usmanov would still be happy after the recent results they’ve had? He might have changed his mind.

Think Usmanov us smart enough to say the right things at the right time tbh, as if end if last season then by and large the media was still semi supporting Wenger staying and hugely critical of the likes of arsenal fan TV etc, landscape gas changed now with the media so would guess so would Usmanov opinion.

But no one wanting power at arsenal will ever slate Wenger publicly or really advocating his removal.

Was just about to post a very similar analogy. Fancy having Sam Allardyce as manager, and not wanting Wenger here instead.

I fully understand and agree with your analogy. However, the next manager has to absolutely be the right appointment for the next 5 years or so imho, so that he can actually build something.

Arsene is 68 years old now.

I could live with Arsene replacing Walsh as DofF and bringing in Eddie Howe as manager to work with him but Arsene as manager is something I am not in favour of.

Can't see the point of Arteta as manager. He has done nothing and would be too big a gamble.

In a nutshell yup, Usmanov would never put blame on Wenger because that reflects from Kroenke.

So publicly at least he supports Wenger and blames the ownership for letting a great manager down.

This is spot on although I would be surprised if we where after him, but then again with the people who run our club you wouldn't know.

Just being better than the current incumbent is not sufficient reason to believe somebody's the right appointment though .There are literally dozens of managers I'd take above Allardyce, many of whom i'd also take over Wenger. The man has undoubtedly been a great manager, and I don't mean to suggest he's not still good, but I really don't think he's the man we need in our current situation.

Agree 100% If Wenger had gone from Arsenal 5 years ago when a lot of the fans started to want him to leave and there was a chance we could have got him then, i have to say i would be keen on having him here. However i do think his ship has slightly sailed and i honestly don't think he is the guy to lead a project here for us, certainly not something that could be for 4-5 years.

I've done a bit of research on the internet regarding different managers and I'm not convinced with any of them apart from maybe Simone or Fonseca. As I said months ago when first linked to him I think Silva is just another Martinez.
