The unique blues spirit (one of us, born not manufactured rubbish) is one of the reasons some people really believe Unsworth can be our manager.

Well probably mate. But there's a difference between saying try to cultivate an identity and recognising that alone may not be able to track a managerial naivity. I think they are two differing points.

Quality and depth? In what positions?

GK: Admittedly one of the best ones

Defence: With Coleman and Funes Mori injured we only have Keane as a prem standard defender. Williams Jags and Baines have proven they are now off the pace. Martina isn’t good enough, the young lads have not shown anything to displace the old pros despite numerous chances.

Midfield: lots of numbers yes but very little creativity. Gueye is good but doesn’t seem to have a definite position. What can you say about the rest? Davies is getting in every team but is he really as good as we think he is? Until Barkley comes back only Gueye stands out as above average on current form.

Attack: The Leicester game threw this into sharp perspective. Vardy Mahrez and Gray with Iheanacho Slimani Okazaki on the bench. They’re a mid table side and every one of those walks into our 11. Bournemouth have Defoe Wilson King Afobe, every one of them walk into our 11, they’re bottom three. Palace have Benteke, walks into our 11, Gabbiadini, Long, Austen, walk into our 11, Richarlison Deeney Ighalo, walk into our 11, Carrol Sakho Arnautovic. These are not top sides, these are lower mid table sides who we would expect to be ahead of yet they have strikers on their bench who would be our starting forward!

Until Coleman Barkley Funes Mori and Bolasie return we have a squad that could very easily go down. We have only one fit player in defence that is of the required standard, and we have possibly the worst strike force in the league (DCL and Niasse FFS). Unless the new manager comes in and gets a load of midfield goals from Klaasen Siggurdson Mirallas and can somehow take 5 years off Jags we absolutely are in the brown stuff until January.
I don't know how you can say all these players could walk into our starting 11 when we haven't either played the right 11 or played with any sort of coherent tactic once all season. If we have Rooney up top, Sigurdsson behind him, and two of Lookman/Vlasic/Mirallas playing in the wider midfield spots - or frankly, Ross out right and Bolaisse out left, I'm not sure half of those guys you listed see the field on our squad.

I think it's also worth noting that we've got Mori, McCarthy, Bolassie, Ross, and Coleman all out all season. Those players are probably worth well over 100M. Does any of those club have that many players out?

So your point at D not having the players is accurate, but I'm not sure how you can judge our attack or midfield considering the pathetic tactics and situations the former manager had put them in.

Probably dont wanna appoint a very, very, young manager based on 1 season, hence giving Bagelburger another season.

I'm starting to think they will move away from having Nagelsmann as their main choice now. But in the summer, there is a possibility about 3 or 4 very high profile coaches will be available. Conte likely could leave Chelsea, Simeone could leave Madrid, not that I think that Bayern would necessarily go for them, but I can see a bit of a siituation where a few high profile coach moves are made in the summer.

Its prudent from Bayern, they get a top, top class manager, granted hes about 90, then they can as you wait and see in the Summer, they know the likes of Tuchel will wait while theres a chance.

McCarthy played this time last week, Coleman, Bolasie and Barkley are back in training. So, yes, other clubs do have a comparable injury list. Systemic recruitment failures were the problem. Even if they were all out for longer we knew about that in the summer and, for reasons that no one can fathom, we did nothing about it and carried on stockpiling midfielders.

Welcome to a shorter version of the Weasel Index - Everton's new manager special

proxy.php

This was our fourth ever weasel picture, and I am using it again now in memory of our fallen friend @Sapie88 . His Trump wrestling a weasel gif may never see the light of day, and this is a tragedy.

So far, we are very short on actual Weaseling here - even the Everton Social Media Weasel Clique (you know who they are, they probably use WhatsApp) have been short on speculation.

??????

Anyway, so what weaseling do we have so far?

Our good friend @chopper6 has got a grip already. He says "[Moshiri wants] Ancelotti, with Paul Clement as no2/ coach. Walsh wants Allardyce, Kenwright wants Dyche". Chopper even uses a 'make of that what you will' variation that we like, WE LIKE A LOT.

@The_La and Mr @Eggs are in the same basket

https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/poll-sam-allardyce-yes-or-no.100015/page-32#post-5883185

They say Allardyce and his 15 merry men, for 30 days and 30 nights and 30 months and 30 shi... you get the rest. Do we really want Big Sam the sweaty corrupt ballbag?

Thanks to my mate Dualz here for flagging @DualityNSNO - @Ibby , who called the Koeman sacking, says David Moyes 'almost a done deal'

https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/ronald-koeman-sacked.99867/page-3#post-5857172

So what are the current scores on the doors?

1. @chopper6 : 5 Weasel Points
2. @ianefc : 5 Snaking Points
3. @The_La : 5 Weasel Points
4. @Eggs : 5 Weasel Points
5. @Ibby: 5 Weasel Points

As ever, you know the drill for The Mole10 god status, a referesher here if necessary https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/summer-transfer-window-2017.94428/page-2560#post-5622816

Some early thoughts:
  • The Index crushed the career of Echo lickspittle Greg O'Keefe. CRUSHED. He is now at a public broadcaster or something. Make of that what you will.
  • Everton Social Media Weasel Clique has been quiet, expect this to warm up. THEN WE CRUSH.
  • I miss @Sapie88 and I bet you do too.
  • International break approaching, we are expecting movement under the turf.
Hopefully the Weasel Hunters will see this and return from their post-summer hiatus, as this is nothing without them.

CRUSH.

..i’ve got nearly as many points as Everton.

becuase they want to take time to asses the possibilities. They had no choice but to sack Ancelotti because too many senior players had turned against him. They went with the safe choice of Heynckes while they take time to pick their next trainer.
So Tuchel isn't 1st choice then. Just amongst a group of maybe 5 or 6

very likely I would say that they have at least that many they are considering. I am sure Tuchel is a good possibility though. Ticks a few obvious boxes - he has experience of Bundesliga, he is German, has some European experience now, is available.

Allardyce would be a disaster, yes he would keep us up but 99% of the fans wouldn't want him here even if he did. If we are going to go down that route I'd much rather have Pulis than him, who at least has Crystanbul on his CV.
He's going to push for a lucrative long term contract.....no thanks.
