I think it would be extremely naive of the board to think Unsworth can steady the ship and keep us safe until the summer.

I think he's shown nothing to suggest he's ready to manage in the premier league and we've been extremely poor in the majority of games under his management.

We played okay for 45 mins against a second string Chelsea in the cup. We were then woeful against Leicester and Lyon. His team selection and tactics in both of these games was dreadful. As others have said, we got a lucky win against Watford at the weekend but again his team selection was poor and our defence looks like it's good for 2/3 goals every game.

Unsworth to me doesn't look like he's improved us at all in the 4 games and I can see Palace beating us next week if we play anything like in his previous 4 games.

We don’t have the luxury of giving him time to find his team.

We’ve been atrociously bad in every game he has managed, bar 20 minutes against Watford at home.

He will continue to play his mate, Rooney, no matter how bad he is.

Unsworth is a risk the majority of Everton fans do not want to take. Go have a look at the poll in the other thread.
I take your points but if we're looking for a stop gap manager till we find the real deal next summer, I'm not adverse to sticking with him. Our back line is terrible, I don't think any short term manager will be able to knock a tune out of them.

Starting to think thats what we are doing.

Unsworth will take charge at Palace unless we can get 1 of our "ideal" candidates in before then.

We will try and limp to the end of the season with Unsworth and unless he REALLY struggles he will be given the gig till the summer when more managers will be available.

How many games would you give him please, and what would it take to get him sacked from his stop gap post? For me he loses the next 3 in a row he cannot continue.

Why on earth would you throw someone with no experience into the fire like that ?

Agreed the ceiling for Unsworth is quite low imo and the floor is very very low indeed.

In four games he’s lost to Chelsea reserves , been outplayed by a struggling Leicester , lost to Lyon and but for all of about 70 mins put a team out that looked as bad as anything we’ve seen for the previous months against Watford . We’ve seen formations that got Koeman heavily criticised featuring muddled team selections and his only win came virtue of is getting back into via one off somebody’s behind and the opposition missing a penalty in the last seconds. Not to mention if anything the dressing room/training ground issues seem to have come to the fore even more since his appointment.

I genuinely haven’t seen one thing in four games that’s made me think , he’s the man for the job. If unsworth gets it and flies up the table great I’ll be made up , my weekends will be more enjoyable and let’s be honest my life generally as well .

I want him to succeed because like all of us I want Everton to succeed but it’s a risk and given our situation I find it hard to justify taking a risk of that magnitude. Whoever we appoint be it unsworth or anybody else it won’t effect my match attendance or my support but I don’t want us to get this wrong and I can’t think of anything pushing unsworth forward for the job.

Not sure how he might do but this is a bit harsh.
It could be considered bad luck that he's missing a few first team players. It could be considered bad luck that he inherited such a mess.
Maybe the crowd forced the changes or maybe it was the fact that he was two down.
To me, it looks like he rested players v OL as he knew he needed a win here, and he got a win. That was a decent calculation as the EL was beyond us anyway.
I haven't loved his selections but he's getting to know the squad and players, hard to judge after 4 games.
I think we showed more second half fight in the Chelsea/Leicester/Watford games that we did in most of Koemans games this season.
Any new manager is going to need a few games to bed in, Unsworth has already had them. I'd give him till Jan.
He picked a Koeman team in the first half on Sunday with 4 or 5 counting Rooney centre mids that Koeman got slaughtered for, he had no choice but to change it to get width on the pitch, the stars definitely aligned in the second half for him to get that result.

I agree mate. It looks like Moshiri has his sights set on a big name that we'll struggle to get in midway through a season. Which leaves us looking for an interim until the summer.

I was all for giving Unsworth a go but I don't think he's done enough to be trusted until the summer. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear anything from the board until they see how we get on at Palace. If Unsworth gets another win then they appoint him until the summer. If we get a hiding then they go all out for Fat Sam until the summer.

Would people have been fighting for Koeman to have kept his job have Watford ? Of course not they’d have been saying he got lucky .

Unsworth odds have shortened today, last I looked he was favourite with Sam drifting (on a very big Lilo).

I'm worried that he lacks the experience to make sure we avoid the drop, but I can see the sense in giving him a few more games to see if things improve and if so keep him until the summer, then go all out for Moshiri's number one target.

Imo the situation is as bad as when Royle came in - it's that serious.

Now Royle was a veteran manager with plenty of premier league know how and turned it around.

Unsworth knows very little of top flight management. He's shown nothing tactically or from a man management perspective to indicate he can get us out of this.

I didn’t want unsworth from day one but if he’d won two and got a draw or even better than maybe he’d have a better argument but given not just the four results but performances how do we find ourselves here .
