Not really but he had 11 years here at and the 1st opportunity to hop skip and jump he was gone faster than a rat up a drain pipe

knife to a gun fight lark, he was always under selling us with the plucky little everton thing and that. now we got some moolah he wants back in....hmm no thanks were fishing in a bigger pond now

Yay to that.

Would have thought Emery would be offered anything he wants to stay at Sevilla. However if he was available or interested I'm sure there would be contact.

I'm not aware of anything in this respect though.

Booo...Someone needs to pass the message along LOL

I read that he was offered 3 years or a 1 year extension and he took the latter.
That might change but who know?
Don't think Sevilla can offer him what we can though.

This.

Jose is the ideal, first choice candidate but I suppose it is unlikely to happen.

Koeman has to be the next up for the me - purely as he has the Prem experience and I think he's suited to be the player who develops the youngsters we have.

Then probably Cocu/Emery/De Boer would both be fine choices as well. However, my main question mark with Emery would be that he very rarely brings through/encourages youth. I'm not meaning that in a bad way, but he's very much like Moyes in the sense that he can snatch a bargain out of nowhere and will introduce youth players slowly over time.

In a way that's fine, but I don't think he'd be as good as boosting the youngsters that we have into first-team regulars as Koeman, Cocu or De Boer would.

I don't understand this. Someone who has won trophies on a -$100m net spend is similar/lower rated than Koeman/Cocu/FDB?

For me, its Emery > Jose > Cocu > FDB > Koeman and their track records says as much.

re. Emery, I do worry about Sevilla's away record in La Liga this season, played 19 and 0-9-10 and just 13 goals scored. It has dented my initial enthusiasm for him a tad!

I quite clearly put my reasons mate - I think some of the others would take better advantage of our current crop of youngsters. Emery has a superb eye for a player though, but he's relatively unforgiving with youth. He never saw eye to eye with Deulofeu and while his criticism may have been fair, his treatment of him was harsh to say the least - and he failed to get the best out of him.

Deulofeu hasn't really blown us away since he came back either. I would say his treatment of Deulofeu is more than fair. If you want a successful side, you need to be ruthless. That is not to say he didn't give the player a chance. He did and the player didn't react. And what did the player achieve since? What would a successful manager do? That's what I think people are missing when writing him off.

To be fair to Emery, no one has been able to get the best of Deulofeu thus far. I've yet to be convinced by him, though I sincerely hope he becomes the player we think he could be.

Ok I keep asking it, but generally get a dismissive type of response. Yes I am a WOOL, but:

Why is the prospect of using existing Evertonians to move the club forward so unpalatable? Moyes grew with the club over 11 years and and elevated squad, league position and finances in that time.

Is no-one wary of effectively throwing millions to Premiership 'unknowns' - when we have hardcore, die hard club guys who would have the time, patience and support of fans whilst we and they grow together a la Moyes reign = whose record is amazing on his budget compared to Martinez.

I've always thought Everton had as great if not greater onus on it's heritage than others and that our style of play, pressing, work rate, concentration was emblematic of understanding that. So, why is growing a manager so unattractive to a club as big as ours with so many alumni at every level of our club? If they're safe with the youth team(s) why are they so out of favour to stand out front?

I trust and respect them and believe they listen and understand fans.

Why are all these names being bandied about suddenly weren't here 3 years ago...?

Matt

Favre does not appeal to me at all. He has only had success in Switzerland. Ok he has had a few good seasons in the German league with champions league qualification.

David Moyes is not Everton's heritage. He is a manager who's goal was always to manage Man Utd (FACT) and he saw Everton as a stepping stone.

The facts you state about him improving us on the pitch and league positions are undeniable, though not sure what credit he gets for the financial elevation you have mentioned!

Just a thought, try going forward instead of backwards.

it is very rare that a manager goes back to a club and succeeds, I think it didn't even work for Capello in Italy.

He is a decent manager, but not the only manager. And why do you seem to struggle to take on board that expectations are gong to be higher due to the investment that is coming into the club, thus meaning somebody with a proven record of nurturing youth and winning something is going to be a better option?

i wonder if maybe we should do what Leicester have done and just go for experience. Its all well and good going for the fashionable manager, eg Koeman, De Boer. But how about a manager who maybe has had ups and downs but still has had a good career. Look at Ranieri he has a nightmare with Greece but then won the title with Leicester. Theres no substitute for experience.
Theres plenty of managers out there of this type, that Swiss manager we have been linked with could be a good shout. But there are plenty of other managers out there who have all the credentials but might not be in the best moment of their career.

Koeman has nearly 20 years management experience. Managed Benfica, PSV, Valencia, Ajax, Feyenoord and now Southampton. Won league titles and cups. Was also assistant manager at Barcelona, and assistant for Holland during France '98. As a player he won 2 European Cups, 4 back to back league titles with Barcelona, 4 dutch league titles, and remains the highest scoring defender of all time.

I'm not sure what other experience you're after mate!

Deulofeu is a confidence player and I think a mix of what Emery did and what RM did is probably what will improve him in the long run.

To say 'what has he achieved since?' is a bit off though, mate - he was one of our best players for much of the season.
