Emery is the stand-out candidate if he is at all interested, several years in La Liga, and a proven track record. Would much rather him over the inevitably short-term circus that would surround Mourinho, if that is at all realistic anyway.

Mind you, knowing us, he would get us to the Europa League only to be knocked out at the group stage. :)

Deulofeu is a confidence player and I think a mix of what Emery did and what RM did is probably what will improve him in the long run.

To say 'what has he achieved since?' is a bit off though, mate - he was one of our best players for much of the season.

I know its a bit harsh but I feel the lad needs some tough love sometimes. RM might have improved him confidence wise but a player without stamina nor an alternative way of playing (mind you, his role is a creativity based role) can hurt him in the long run. That's my feel in where RM actually hurt his development in the long run despite the short term uptick. The best players in the world work hard, have detractors who are worse than what Emery and myself have said about him. At some point, he needs to grow beyond needing TLC. I don't think Bale or Messi (who he is compared to btw) would wilt under tough love.

I think you will find a lot of people were writing off Emery at half time last night mate..

Again, even if he lost, I would still take him over Mourinho any day. Besides, I'm tired of Mourinho's soap opera.

Ok I keep asking it, but generally get a dismissive type of response. Yes I am a WOOL, but:

Why is the prospect of using existing Evertonians to move the club forward so unpalatable? Moyes grew with the club over 11 years and and elevated squad, league position and finances in that time.

Is no-one wary of effectively throwing millions to Premiership 'unknowns' - when we have hardcore, die hard club guys who would have the time, patience and support of fans whilst we and they grow together a la Moyes reign = whose record is amazing on his budget compared to Martinez.

I've always thought Everton had as great if not greater onus on it's heritage than others and that our style of play, pressing, work rate, concentration was emblematic of understanding that. So, why is growing a manager so unattractive to a club as big as ours with so many alumni at every level of our club? If they're safe with the youth team(s) why are they so out of favour to stand out front?

I trust and respect them and believe they listen and understand fans.

Why are all these names being bandied about suddenly weren't here 3 years ago...?

Matt

Sure, throw me a few names Evertonians other than Moyes. My expectations for the next boss is actually not that high.
Year 1 - Top Half of table with transfer profits
Year 2 - Challenge for Europa
Year 3 - Challenge for UCL with fallback in Europa
Year 4+ - Keep or improve upon year 3

I think you will find less adventurous fans but I just think if a name like Emery becomes available, you get him.

Not really but he had 11 years here at and the 1st opportunity to hop skip and jump he was gone faster than a rat up a drain pipe

knife to a gun fight lark, he was always under selling us with the plucky little everton thing and that. now we got some moolah he wants back in....hmm no thanks were fishing in a bigger pond now

I don't want him back but in fairness it wasn't the 'first opportunity' after 11 years, presumably... and even if it was I don't begrudge him for taking it, I just viewed the scenario differently from him (he thought the grass was greener...) - it was best for both parties at the time. What he did afterwards is worth more of my ire.

Hopefully the next manager will change this

If emery had lost last night I wonder how many would still want him.....

Good question.

There's no doubt that had he lost last night, the sheen would have come off his impressive CV and admittedly, I'd be less enthused, but as he actually beat our less-than-fragrant neighbours, he's still got that stunning sex appeal (in a managerial sense).

He's basically the La Liga version of Koeman - both finish in the top 5,6,7 without spending money, but Emery has European trophies to his name, so on that basis, he is a good step ahead of Koeman, and losing last night wouldn't objectively change that much.

What has Emery accomplished this season.
We first of all should accept that he has no hope of winning the league, He has Barcelona, Real and Atletico Madrid ahead of him. I don't think even Leicester could win that league(joke).

Instead, they have a decent league placing, won a European trophy and qualified for the CL. It really is quite remarkable.
This is no flash in the pan, this is his third year in the row winning that trophy. It has been pointed out by others that all of this has been done while carrying a huge transfer surplus.
Would Mourinho have done as well in similar circumstances ?

Does anybody have a list of the players they have been sold by Emery in the last three seasons , just to see what he has had to contend with.

The more I think about him, the more I think that maybe I should change my No. 1 and my No. 2.....but not yet.

The upset value in the media and across the park if Mourinho joined would be just too good to miss out on.

Hearing how Klopp the Flopp is a better manager than Mourinho would be the stuff of legends.
It isn't all that long ago that Jonjoe Shelvey was better than Barkley.
