I think the football world still thinks we are skint and are still owned by Kenwright so cant understand why Koeman would want to leave a team who has just had an excellent season, an improvememt on the previous season and European football to come here. So I can kind of understand the thinking.
If/when we start splashing the cash we will be taken more seriously.
If we start winning regularly, that should turn heads already. I don't believe we need to burn cash like Abramovich, but the ability to resist selling our best players would be a great statement on top of a winning culture.
I'm meh about Koeman, my eyes set on the more untouchables like Emery (dare some say even Simeone). FDB looks primed to take the position but I hope the delays mean other candidates get a shout too. Had we sacked Martinez in October, I would have taken anyone from Favre, Garcia and perhaps Mourinho (even Klopp if timing worked out), but we have all the time in the world now, we should take our time and do it right.
If people are worried about players leaving because we don't have a manager yet, let's remember that this is a horrible season for a team tipped for Europe. Only Lukaku dared to make noise about leaving and he has not proven he is UCL quality in the way he gave up end of the season. We can easily convince other players to stay with a quality hire, a well defined roadmap and a cleaned up management structure. It won't happen in 1 day, or week or month. The change will take months if not years, so fret not over the silence over our managerial candidates.
Hopefully, we'll hire the best of what we can find out there.
