New Everton manager must be a proven winner says Ian Snodin
Blues should confirm appointment before European Championships
Waiting game: Some men whose futures might shape Everton's managerial future. Ronald Koeman is believed to be a prime candidate but an ambitious move for Jose Mourinho could depend whether he takes the Manchester United job from Louis van Gaal.
If Everton have got a specific candidate for new manager lined up then I wouldn’t mind waiting but ideally I’d like to see a new man brought in within the next week or so.
Once the new man is in place then we’ll all be able to start planning for the future and he can be personally involved before the European Championship finals get under way.
Realistically we need to be targeting top European international players and we’d be in much better shape if the manager has been appointed ahead of the international action this summer and he can also deal with the players going out of the club too.
I said last week that Everton and Jose Mourinho could be a true love affair but whether it’s Mourinho or not I believe we should be aiming for the very best.
When it comes to attributes for a new manager, I want a winner.
We need someone who is passionate but with a winning mentality he can instil in the team.
Whether we get a manager who employs a good brand of football or not isn’t too important at this stage.
It’s nice to watch entertaining football and that’s what we all aspire to but the main aim now after the past couple of seasons is to get back to winning ways and find someone who can improve our Premier League position because we all know that we should be doing significantly better with this particular group of players.
Whoever is handing that task, be it Mourinho, Ronald Koeman, Frank de Boer or someone else, they’re going to have a bit of money behind them but that’s not the be all and end all.
I know as much as anyone, when you come to this football club as a player or a manager you can be taken in by Everton.
We’ve got a truly fantastic set of supporters who are great to play for and that’s not always something that’s appreciated from outside the club but once you become part of that you know exactly what I’m saying.
Farhad Moshiri is willing to put his money into the club and he wants the best.
He’s a successful businessman and is not just at Everton for an easy ride.
You get the feeling that he wants to make things happen.
