Not sure the 70's were as bad as the 90's

Clive Thomas, Emlyn Hughes, Phil Neal. Phil Thompson, I could go on but I'm gagging already, I loathe those names. Me Dad and Grandfather told me how they used to go to both grounds. During the 70's that changed, that camaraderie may have existed back then. Growing up, all I ever heard, in the schoolyard and at work was that lot across the park and the media fawning over them. (I've been there once, Sharp scored, never went back and why should I, nothing could top that). It stopped being banter when the arrogance turned to mockery.

I have complete antipathy towards them, the 90's were to me, an aftermath. Before I'm called bitter, I have good friends, who support the dark side, it's just football, I know.

I guess it's just perspective and the era you grow up in. Fair play it's all about viewpoint but from my view it should have been very, very different. From Catterick to Kendall and to the present day, we've been plagued by incompetence and ill-fortune. We're in a time of change, like it or not it's time we all spoke up. And I for one don't wan't to see history repeating itself, that's why this next appointment is crucial.

Because I'm super bored at work and I had time to peruse the vaults...

ON THIS DAY IN 2013:

- Vitor Pereira is said to have left Porto, causing much excitement and poor Portugese translations on GOT. At this point, it genuinely did look on.

- Roberto Martinez's name is among the possibles, but few posters are enthused about a recently relegated Wigan boss.

- There is serious concern over the chances of Alan Stubbs and David Weir, both of who seem to have had stories of support "planted" in the Echo by the club.

- One or two posters pitch Mark Hughes and Rafael Benitez. They are roundly and justifiably abused by many.

- One disappointed poster mentions Frank De Boer has just signed a new contract with Ajax.

- Some utter jarg ITKs post garbage.

I don't know why I bothered doing that as it really was a pointless exercise, but that's how things were progressing at this stage last time round. Keep in mind we didn't appoint anyone for almost two further weeks - which seemed to be much longer last time, but hey ho.

Lvg? Wins pots whether he goes. One of the arguments against mourinho was he doesn't play youth, the same can't be said for lvg. Not for me but would have thought he'll be on the radar now.

Lets stay positive.

We were never going to get Mourinho.

The media in recent years both nationally and globally have become obsessed with this small elite circle of managers/coaches. You all know the names I'm talking about.

Before the shouts, I want the very best we can get but it always seemed we would have to look outside the Mourinhos of this world for our new manager - at this juncture in our history.

Someone can still come in and do a fantastic job. Look at Ranieri and Pochettino. The new man needs to fit us, to understand where we are now and what we all want.

Still think there will be a flush of optimism and excitement when we get the new man in. Let's all get behind whoever that is. Clear out the deadwood, the has-beens, and those who think they are too big for us.

New manager, some exciting new signings, Moshiri demonstrating and exerting influence. New board members even.

Keep the faith. COYB.

Hasn't Lvg previously said he was going to retire once his United contract ended next year? If so, can't see him coming here as it would be very short term appointment.

I still think our main target is Koeman. I notice he said he would have discussions with their board at the season end and we are a week on post season end now without any contract extensions or anything like that being announced. It just makes you wonder...

I was just about to write very similar. Ranieri & Pochettino have shown everyone that with the right msnager anything is possible. None of us are educated enough from the professional point of you to really know who will succeed and who won't.

I still want Koeman, but there are 2 or 3 that could come in and potentially do well. At same point that's not a certainty,no one really is.

Indeed. Even Mourinho wouldn't have been a nailed on success.

Also, I doubt we will get a manager that 100% of the fan base is happy with.
