I'm talking about people dissecting the likes of Pellegrini as if they aren't good enough for us. Yet Pellegrini was good enough for a title challenging team and was good enough for real Madrid to appoint.

Yet here is a mid table team whos best players may want to leave and previous appointments have been poor for what, 19 years and suddenly the former real Madrid manager isnt good enough

I can understand reservations about De Boer or fears of Moyes or whatever sure. But Pellegrini for arguments sake has been sought after by much more successful teams in recent years.

Lets sign Capello then

..I don't have any particular preference but it appears the new manager will be given a considerable war chest and I think a key requirement is a proven track record with transfers. I'm not convinced Pelligrini has this based on the current City side.

Spot on.

In 2010 Pelegrini got 96 points with Real Madrid. At the time, was there highest league points total ever.

They were popped to the title by arguable the greatest team ever Barcelona who got 98 points.

But he's not good enough for us.

I don't think the next manager will be setting out our transfer targets beyond having a voice.

All of our 'targets' have historically worked with a DoF.

Have I missed something in the last two hours ? Pellegrini has shot to the top of the favourites lists on oddschecker. Quite a jump for an old man !

I'm in two minds about Pellegrini. Clearly he's been good throughout his career, but how long until he retires?

Ultimately I think I'd take him.

I think Pelegrini's league form this season, when he was unofficially and then officially living in Guardiola's shadow, skews a lot of peoples opinions of him. Of all the people on the shortlist, he may be the one with the most to prove and certainly a more than capable appointment. It's him or Emery for me. It's a very good shortlist tho, a lot has changed since we appointed Martinez!

Everybody we are now linked with is a gamble

There is nobody in that group that can guarantee anything
Even with all the money we have we will still be looking at 2nd tier players at best, all 1st tier players will be wanting minimum of CL football. We will have to be patient and understanding......

The bets are probably coming in fast and furious now. Sad to see his odds dropping and not Emery's but he's probably everyone's safe harbor bet.
If as some have speculated that Koeman is saving himself for Arsenal then it leaves Pellegrini and FDB as the only 2 unattached candidates. Not bothering to include Moyes but it is concerning that he's chosen to snub Villa.

....that's interesting, you're suggesting the DoF will be responsible for identifying and signing players. If that's the case his appointment is as important as the managers.
