I like the idea that we are interviewing a number of potential candidates. I hope we have a proper "committee" in charge of the process though. Not just Blue Bill....otherwise we'll end up being proper f*****d again.

Bill has done a good job with the hiring to be fair. It's the middle to end of the manager's tenure where he fails. This is because he puts no pressure on them, gives them the safest job in football and then when things are bad he shows blind loyalty and won't sack them.

But Moyes was a good appointment for the first half of his time here, and Roberto for the first third. If BK had moved Roberto on sooner or made him get a defensive coach and adapt through some actual pressure, then maybe we'd be in a better position now.

Thankfully we now have Moshiri who has shown an underperforming manager the door and has raised the bar for the calibre of manager in consideration, and subsequent expectation that will be placed on their shoulders.

I can understand those who don't want Pellegrini

He's hardly known for good defending. At City he had some big attacking names and one of the best goalkeepers in the League to offset that. He wouldn't have that here

Like the man a lot, but I'm not sold on him as the next manager

He's at the wrong end of his career for me, we want someone with some real fire in their belly to achieve something special.

At 62 and with his best days behind him, is that Pelligrini?

Not for me.

Yesterday, reports in the English media suggested Everton are going to hold discussions with Sevilla boss Unai Emery over vacant managerial job at Goodison Park. The chatter became so much that Emery ended up, at least for a day or so, the favourite at English bookmakers.

Unai Emery has been very successful at Sevilla, leading them to three consecutive Europa League titles, and is now one of the more highly rated managers in Europe.

The Spaniard was asked about Everton's interest during Sevilla's Europa League celebrations, to which he replied to Estadio Deportivo: "I'm very good at Sevilla."

The Spanish newspaper say Unai Emery is already preparing for his next season with Sevilla, along with sporting director Monchi. Should Everton genuinely be interested, they may have to also fend off interest from AC Milan.

Unai Emery has another year left in his contract at Sevilla, but is said to have a release clause in his contract, which interested clubs could obviously trigger. Estadio Deportivo say rumours will probably continue about Everton interest in Emery, but they certainly don't sound too worried about the situation.

think this is the quote you probably meant mate?

If so, it's an English bad rep site (sports witness) going off a translated spanish paper article which i will put below

Halagado.

google tranlsted (i know) to this

Flattered. So Unai Emery has shown during the celebration of the fifth European sevillista when questioned by the interest of Everton League. "I'm very good at Sevilla," said the Basque, who says he is already thinking about next year with Nervion.
It is recalled that in today reporting from England of a meeting between Everton and view Unai Emery, interview would take place in the coming days. Next to Everton, would be Milan, with the landing of a Chinese investment group, one of the clubs that have resumed their interest in Unai Emery, who has one year left on his contract, however, it could break based on a clause release listed in your contract.
A terse statements with the Basque, a priori, aims to end speculation and aligned to the above from the club, where Monchi has repeated that works with Unai Emery in planning next season. An interest, Everton, which no doubt will continue to talk over this summer.
That's that settled. Jog on.

as much as I like the chaos and carnage and sometimes join in, Moyes surely won't be the next Everton manager.

Yes, contact has been made, but it doesn't have to mean positive news for him.

To me, it's between four. And those four are massive upgrades on Martinez.

Not a huge fan of the man leading the odds at the moment but at the end of the day he's a premier league winner.

For me it's between the Dutch one from Tory docks and The Spanish one who looks like he could goose your ma after sweet talking her over a gin and tonic.

Viva the blues

Would be interested to see Moyes' last 2 seasons win rate at Everton vs Koemans at Southampton.

Absolute lunacy to get the Dutch version of Moyes (and pay a fee for compo to Southampton) when we could have the tried and tested real deal

Actual Moyes > Dutch Moyes.

Incredible comparison mate.

Ronavid Koemoyes.

Koeman last two seasons: 47.37%
Moyes last two seasons: 40.79%

MOYES LAST 2 SEASONS AT EVERTON
2012/13 W16 D15 L7 - 63 6TH
2011/12 W15 D11 L12 - 56 7TH

KOEMAN LAST 2 SEASONS AT SOUTHAMPTON
2015/16 W18 D9 L11 - 63 6TH
2014/15 W18 D6 L14 - 60 7TH

Anyway - personally think we'll be talking to Moyes out of courtesy.

I don't get why people say they don't fancy De Boer or Emery because they have no PL experience....

okay let's see some candidates who have that experience...

Louis van Gaal
Quique Flores
Steve McClaren
Remi Garde
Garry Monk
Chris Ramsey
Tim Sherwood
John Carver
Nigel Pearson
Paul Lambert
Harry Redknapp
Nigel Adkins
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Felix Magath
Pete Mel
Michael Laudrup
Malky Mackkay
AVB
Steve Clarke
Martin Jol
David Moyes
Martin O'Neill
Brian McDermott
Owen Coyle
Roberto Di Matteo
Avram Grant

Take your pick.

sam allardyce < Add him to that list also.

That's that settled. Jog on.

Why is it exactly mate, Martinez commited himself to Wigan about 5 days before becoming our manager yanno?

What do you honestly expect a currently employed manager to say when asked about another club wanting him?

Note the fact that last summer when he signed his new one year extension he had a clause inserted allowing him to talk to other clubs btw?

He shouldn't even be spoken to on the phone never mind an interview after what he said about our fans and not to mention coming in with 28m for Fellaini and Baines together!

Id love pellegrini, think he's got something to prove after city, age and how he looks is irrelevant, don't like the sounds of koeman based on two half decent seasons, moyes finished top six a number of times don't want him anywhere near the job

Let's hope this is true because I would take that to be the situation.

I wonder why they're so in love with Koeman. Personally I think he's a very average appointment.

If the new manager comes from a top club but have been sacked: they're not good enough for us.

If the new manager is from a team beneath our standing that shows promise: they're not good enough for us.

If the new manager is from a team who are currently managing to be more successful than Everton in a different league: they're a risk.

If the new manager is from a team " " " " " " in the premier league: ...that surely ticks all the pant-wetting boxes?

I think Koeman has beaten every premier league opponent on his 2 years there. Personally think he is the right blend in terms of what we feel we've been lacking - and he's proven in PL.

So from this thread I've seen the majority want;

  • Someone with Premier League experience
  • Prepared to be tactically flexible
  • Bring through players from the youth setup, preferably from the local area
  • In it for the long term, track record of staying at clubs
  • Champions League experience
  • 'gets' the Everton way of doing things

And yet not Moyes. Right.

We're easy going, us Evertonians.

Indeed, and that is why he cannot be left alone to make the big decisions. It's all well and good making that appointment but we can do without all the emotional attachment and dishing out of long contracts prematurely, murals going up on stadium walls and Champions League speeches, etc. Just be professional about it. He's your employee not your new best friend.

Moyes.

Tactically flexible.

Highlight all of those things that Moyes doesn't have. Tactically he was basic, youth players were brought through painfully slowly, he was rubbish in CL games, and he constantly belittled the club to make himself seem better than he was.
