So you think they kept the same tactics for 16 years and then suddenly it started working?

*giggle*

You realise the managerial appointments worked immediately under monchi dont you?

Whose to say they are the same tactics? Of course not but the same style of manager yes....look at the appointments and compare them.

Honestly, do you have any idea what sort of Club Sevilla is?

Its a team thats won the league once, 70 years ago, in English terms its Sheffield Wednesday.

Agree, albeit on a cracking run currently.

Worth noting the volume of DOF speculation on here and comments re: club philosophy etc. It's like a generation of FIFA 98 beauts have taken the club hostage...

We have a philosophy: we like home grown talent, effort and grit.

We don't need a DOF, we need a stadium

We need a manager, so we're not ransom to post euros panic and inflated player price tags on a few stand out mercenaries who either didn't play 50 games this season or were young/ lucky enough to cope with it.

There was enough noise on this forum about Martinez going nowhere last OCTOBER/NOVEMBER. by now we could've seriously road tested our internal guys ( unsworth, big Dunc), or at least given them the better half of season to prove themselves unready.

This foreign manager / dof crap defies everything that brought Everton success previously. It's mindless and embarrassing.

Kendall, Moyes, Lineker, Southall, sheedy, gray, bracewell, jags, baines, Radcliffe, osman, big Dunc, Barry, Rooney, weir, stubbs, unsworth, Coleman, Lennon, Barkley, stones...

Yeah, s0d being proud and learning from the past. Let's just spend some Iranian dollar on agents and more guys like Niasse.

Embarrassing.

Is Sevilla's team even that good? Okay there's a couple of cracking players in there, but generally throughout the squad, is it a squad that should be winning titles in Spain and doing well in the Champions League? Not for me.

Just shows what a good coach he is. Three Europa league wins on the spin is incredible. He clearly gets the best out of his players.

He's even managed to make a player of N'Zonzi ffs.

Don't disagree there Zat. All I'm saying is that if Monchi ends up here, it will be because of Emery. Not the other way around. Eventually after Emery has left then we'll look for a new head coach that shares the same footballing philosophy as the DoF.

Ok two points:

1-- If we got them both and emery was a total failure then surely we would seek to bring someone in with a different background / style of play etc ?

Then if that managerial style is not complimented by Monchi he would also be let go or resign.

2-- Perhaps if we got Monchi he would recommend NOT getting emery but going for a differenthead coach ?

When monchi arrived they were in major dire straits...he was instrumental in hiring Ramos who changed the style and then kept it going over next few managers.

Michel wasnt good and lost alot of games, basically doing a koeman in spain...they still had very good players though due to monchi and emery came in of course and they did well agaim.

When Monchi arrived they had just finished 8th in their first season back in La Liga. Does't seem like 'major dire straits'

Would you prefer unsworth?

Agree in hindsight he should have been given more games, if he had won them all 3-0 then we would have just hired him.

You wanna appoint Unsworth or Duncan?

Interesting.

You got that bit right...

@Screech sorry copied off wiki on phone.

[QIn 2000, after Sevilla got relegated from the top division, Monchi was appointed its director of football.[2] He was given two objectives by the board: develop the club's youth system and implement a vast scouting policy inside and outside Spain.

Monchi clearly shone in both tasks, as a big number of wonderkids came through the Rojiblancos youth setup (notably Diego Capel, Alberto Moreno, Jesús Navas, Antonio Puerta, Sergio Ramos and José Antonio Reyes),[3] and he also created a network of over 700 scouts around the world. Within this setup, he also helped the club discover a number of profittable bargains (including Adriano, Dani Alves, Júlio Baptista, Federico Fazio, Seydou Keita or Ivan Rakitić),[4] and helped it establish in the top half of the top division in the subsequent decades, making a profit of around €200 million.[5]

Things is you need to change and improve. Being nostalgic brought us nothing in the last 20 years. We need to adjust and move forward. Remembering our history it's a damn good thing, but we can't afford to stay in the past

Because the old way has been working great for the last 29 years, hasn't it?

Look, times change. I'm all up for doing things a different way, especially if we've got the money to try and make it work.

You don't have to throw the baby out with the the bathwater, but if you can improve the first team and youth setup, why wouldn't you try?
