Maybe in the end he is the biggest named option not to have rejected us.
Which is all fine, but all week it's been 'Emery is on, stay patient' and then almost literally 24 hours ago it's "Koeman back in country, meeting Moshiri and will be our manager by end of day tomorrow".

I don't dislike Koeman, just think Emery would have been a much better fit. Truthfully, I think the DoF matters a lot more at this juncture. Hopefully they get on well..

I really hope @The Esk can explain why Moshiri thought he's the best man for the job? He hasn't won anything in about 8 years, failed pretty spectacularly in Spain and brought a Southampton team stability. I really just don't see what they see in him beyond "he already knows the PL".

7th place then 6th place for a 'small' team like Southampton isn't really bad going. You lot seem to think you're a bigger team with more potential than us (Saints fan here), so if Koeman can guide Everton to better positions than 7th and 6th place, that wouldn't be too bad, right?

Not sure if posted before but comparison between him and Martinez popped up on my Twitter: http://www.[Publication is blacklis...al&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

With Liverpool enjoying another European night on Thursday, the mood is very much a happy one at Anfield.

Across Stanley Park though, it is anything but, with winds of discontent swirling around Goodison Park.

That comes after another disappointing season, in which Everton sit 11th in the Premier League table and have failed in both domestic cup semi finals.

The pressure is firmly on manager Roberto Martinez as a result, with many Everton fans now calling for him to be replaced.

There have been several names listed, and Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is among those.

But would the Dutchman represent an improvement on Martinez? The stats over the last two years make for interesting reading.

Won Drawn Lost Points Goals Total Scoring Attempts per Game Goals Conceded per Game Possession Percentage per Game Appearances
Southampton
49 26 37 173 161 13.68 1.05 53.39 112
Everton 43 34 34 163 164 13.46 1.24 53.52 111
In that time his side have managed more wins, 49 to 43, and fewer draws, culminating in them also picking up more points in that period, 173 to 163.

They have also been a slightly better attacking team, as they come out with a narrow victory in regards to total scoring attempts per game.

Defensively they have also proved better than Martinez’s side, whose goals conceded per game tally is higher than the Saints’.

Surprisingly though, Southampton have managed to lose three more games than Everton and score three fewer goals, 161 to 164.

Possession wise they are also lower, although it is minimal enough to be negligible.

A win for Koeman though, whose side comes out on top in five of the six areas looked at, suggesting the Dutchman would be a viable replacement for Roberto Martinez.

Would Ronald Koeman be a good replacement for Roberto Martinez at Everton?

Jesus wept. Can't believe some of the absolute weapons on here - "Oh ffs, not Dutch Moyes", "Chance to make a statement we failed" absolute bloody nonsense that.

We've had to endure 2 consecutive seasons of utter tosh and you're fuming over a coach that's done amazingly given he's had to go through 2 consecutive seasons of losing all his players and having next to no money, yet he's improved Southampton season after season and got them into Europe. He plays exciting football, scouts some boss players, has won countless trophies as a player including scoring the winner in a CL final and paired with Monchi and that £165m transfer kitty, just imagine where we're headed.

Cannot wrap my head around the mentality of some blues on here. As fans we should be making him feel at home and getting right behind him. But no - fume fume fume.
Yep.

@chicoazul was bang right early today.

Emery said No, Koeman got his bluff called?

He's arguably improved Pochettino's Southampton team even after selling their best players. Their league position this year is fantastic when you see how few points they are behind City. He's outperformed Klopp and Hiddink. He's bought well in the market and has shown he can be defensively solid but play good football. Let's see what he can do given a greater budget, a higher quality of player, and a greater ability to retain those players.

Thanks mate.

Being realistic an appointment above Koeman's level, Mourinho, Simeone, and even perhaps Emery whilst we all hoped for it and there was genuine interest from Emery, was too great a stretch given where the club has found itself after years of no investment and the onfield performance of the last two years.

Moshiri's plans have obviously excited Koeman, if we can get Monchi alongside then we've got something special to help us fulfill our ambitions.

It's a strange one as if you'd told me three weeks ago it would be Koeman I would have been happy I think. Got caught up in the Jose dream and then the more realistic Emery dream and now can't help but feel a little deflated. Which is clearly daft as Koemans record is very good.

Emery just felt right for us though, liked his brand of football and the fact he's a (more recent) winner of trophies. Be interesting to one day find out what happened and how close we came.

Must say a big thanks to @The Esk though, backed Koeman a good few weeks ago which will fund half my season ticket...

Really should be a lot happier...

And those are excellent reasons. I dunno, I just don't have the 'WOW!' factor from him, but those are really excellent reasons.

First time poster, long time lurker. Wasn't thrilled with the news of Koeman but realistically it's a great appointment since we are bottom half of the table and 2 of our better players want to leave.
