Those fuming about Koeman would've been fuming about pochettino too if we'd got him direct from Southampton. Poch was nothing like Moyes and neither is Koeman.
And what has he achieved since joining Tottenham? Other than coming close (but failing) to win a league that was up for grabs by any club with enough fight to grab it. Not saying either him or Koeman are awful managers, but I see little reason why they deserve so much fanfare.

But we have regressed massively since the Moyes days. Koeman's first job will be to sort things out so that we are no longer languishing behind Stoke and Southampton. A 6th or 7th placed finish next season actually will represent progress.

regressed massively is pushing it a bit, come on. In Martinez' 3 years he bettered any previous points total moyes had achieved, got us to two semis (moyes got us to 3? in 11 years) and they both got us to the last 16 in europe as their best result.

I know the league placings of the last two seasons were bad, but there's no doubt to me we've built a squad which is a hell of a lot closer to actually compete with a title than any of the ones we had under moyes.

Finished with less points than my #1 choice for the job, AVB.

Mate, we were into Jose and his financial demands were not an issue.
Mr Moshiri has made his intentions clear. Whatever happens with Koeman, Mr Moshiri isn't dropping his goals any time soon hopefully.
But Jose didn't want us. Got to get over it we have to reestablish before you can draw the Jose types. Money isn't the only thing a managers looks at.

Koeman does seem to be quite highly rated, and I'm willing to trust in MoshiMoshi but I do feel like I've been hit with the "you a small club now" hammer after missing out on Jose, Simeone and Emery. Hopefully if he can take Southampton to where they are, he can take us even higher.
Maybe a Monchi will give me some more optimism.

Could it be that Moshiri sees Koeman as a stepping-stone? A reliable manager with proven premier league experience, who, with someone like Monchi assisting and MoshiMoshi's financial backing, will help big up our image on the European (or even global) stage and from there attract the top-class managers/players in the future? Rather than try and go for broke right away by flashing the cash?
I think its more like Koeman sees us as a stepping stone. Don't think he will be good enough for the next level though.

Thought we were meant to be getting a top manager??

Koeman for £6-7mil in wages?

Disgraceful and stupid.

Rather have Emery /FDB or even Moyes than Koeman.

Oh christ, the " A Title challenge is just around the corner" shouts are back already. Getting to semi-finals means sweet FA; Watford, Palace and the crappest Everton side in years all attained such a non-achievement this year alone. Go back a few years and you have all kinds of no-mark clubs reaching semi-finals. People are still underestimating the damage done by Martinez.

Before Emery seemed realistic and it appeared he had chosen to stay at Southampton, I was fully on board with Koeman.

While he does seem the "safe" option, that's no bad thing. Thinking about it, if it was to be him under Kenwright then it probably would be a fizzer. But backed by Moshiri, the scope for improvement just seems so much greater. There's no guarantee for success, but I reckon we've got every chance now, especially if Monchi gets on board.

If nothing else, it feels pretty great to be able to do the "poaching" of a well regarded Premier League manager. If anyone was in doubt as to Moshiri's ambition and ability to pull it off, this should end it. He picked his man, everyone said it was impossible, and he sorted it.

Can't wait to see what happens next, and looking forward to hearing from Koeman for the first time. Hopefully Moshiri is in that press conference.

No it won't. It'll just be where we would have finished this year bar 3 or 4 substitutional mistakes.......

Every club in the land can come up with a series of 'if only' excuses. Our awful performance over the last two years does not boil down to a few managerial mistakes. Martinez totally bloody ruined us, and would have taken us into a relegation fight had the club not finally woken up to his absolutely apparent ineptitude.
