I don't think Emery ever seriously wanted to come to us, no doubt has his eyes on bigger jobs coming in Spain and Italy and in the meantime he has secured more financial help from Sevilla in the transfer market this summer.

Added to that, have just seen a link in Spain to the French media suggesting interest in Emery from PSG.

You need to walk before you run. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. We have many steps to climb.

Okay, maybe Koeman isn't the best, but given our recent league results, he's the best available.

He looks like a good fit to get us back where we were three seasons ago, and revamp our under performing squad, especially at the back.

I would hope that he does so well that after three years he does go to Barça, but he will have put us in a position that we will have our pick of managers.
Some sense being spoken

Albelda won two La Liga titles with Valencia at the beginning of the 21st century, but they have been unable to replicate those successes in recent years, and the influential midfielder blames former president Juan Soler and head coach Ronald Koeman for their recent slump.

"It really hurts that we can not really compete right now. We had the best team in Spain and had closed the gap with Barcelona and Real Madrid," Albelda was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

"However, then president Juan Soler destroyed everything that we had achieved. He fired Quique Sanchez Flores when we were only four points off the pace. The club then appointed Koeman and we were nearly relegated. The club is still recovering from that period.

"We are doing an extraordinary job now if you bear in mind that we constantly have to sell our best players. We have to be inventive in order to return to the top

Oh come off it mate. He was haggling - negotiating the best deal. By the looks of it, just what Emery was doing - before turning us down!

I know you've beat the Emery drum from the start, and just like you I think he'd be an excellent appointment. But Koeman, should it go through, would be very impressive.
Think Emery has been pretty straightforward in all of this, he set out his terms, we've made him an excellent offer, he decided to say no. No problem with any of that.
Koeman looks like he was offered £4m, negotiated a better deal with Southampton and turned us down. Then he hears what we're offering Emery and comes knocking on the door again. That doesn't leave me with a good impression of the guy. Personally after Emery knocked us back I'd have gone for De Boer.

he's hedging his bets by the looks of it.

From what I can tell, media has been very behind on this - though I think things changed rather dramatically in the last 24 hours.

If the PSG thing with Emery is true, it would explain a lot.

No no no no no please no.

From everything i've heard from Ajax fans and people who watch their games, he's Martinez mk II. Possession at all costs, slow build-up and no plan B. Doesn't work in this league.

Maybe he'll eventually prove me wrong in the premier league. But I'd rather us not be the experiment to find out.

Nailed it ;)

Or by the looks of it Emery was also just waiting for a better offer (PSG^^)

I wouldn't take it to heart mate. It's negotiations and RK overplayed his hand. We moved on to Emery, but I'd imagine there was definitely a tactic of also showing RK he wasn't our only option. It was a win win for us in that either we got Emery, or RK came back to us willing to make the move (after his talks with the Sotton board, which supposedly took place earlier this week).

All very political I assume. Hopefully it works out. At this point it seems likely but who knows...

If you asked the Soton fans who they'd want back out of Poch and Koeman they say Koeman all day long, they say he is a better manager, and they know, they've had experience of both.

And yet some Evertonians are saying he's not good enough for us?

He was at Ajax and PSV - and as expected in those instances won the league...

No, he didn't have good spells at either Benfica or Valencia, but still won trophies (more than we've done in 21 years).

AZ yes he struggled. But then yes he went to Feyenoord and sorted them out and then he's done fantastically well at Sotton.

FDB and Cocu - guess what Zat - they've only won 'the league in Holland with the favourites'.

I'm not claiming they aren't good managers. I have my doubts over FDB but Cocu is certainly one to watch.

However, as far as we know, Koeman was always Moshiri's no.1 target to stabilise the club and get us challenging for top six again (realistically where a club this size and with the quality of squad where we should be), and then build from there. Key to that will be a DoF, who will set in place the style/system that managers will then adhere to.

You should google koeman and the clubs hes been at....very negative opinions before feyenoord.

also ajax and psv were not favourites under fdb or cocu.
