Not so much not "happy" as totally underwhelmed by the appointment.

Maybe it is the Martinez effect because three years ago I was genuinely excited by his appointment only to see it all turn to dust so I am more cynical now.

Someone pointed out to me last night when I was saying how flat I feel about Koeman, the City project started with them appointing Mark Hughes, himself "a proven Premier league manager with an outstanding playing pedigree" and working their way up to Pep from there.

I thought that made perfect sense and puts the Koeman deal in context.

At the moment we are not the attraction we would like to be, huge investment or not.

So we sign the best we can and hope our stock starts to rise.

The next managerial appointment at EFC after Koeman might see us able to pick fruit from a considerably higher branch on the tree.

Imagine by that time we are in the CL and playing in a beautiful new stadium by the river.

Meantime though I will wish Ronald all the best and get behind him 100% :)

As I imagine you and everyone else will ;)

My initial feelings as well echoed yours mate, BUT and it's a Khardasian sized but ofc, BUT IF we get Mocnhi in as the DoF then Koeman comes in much more as a coach managing the assets - and the recruitment will be done by arguably the best in the game at it, then it goes to Koemans coaching and game management skills which look to be his best assets, it is nice for me to look at us appointming a manger who in hiscareer so far has altered the way he does things and seems to take on board lessons when things have not gone well, after both Moyes followed by Martinez who seemed wedded to 2 very distinct styles and wouldn't change from those beliefs - even when they started to fail, then it is a welcoming sight and does bode well

Same here mate. Have to admit that I hadn't heard from him till about a week ago. As we're looking to bring a DoF in, securing someone with the pedigree of Monchi would be almost too good to be true.
Yeah mate I didn't know a huge much either until his name started popping up in the media. But the bargains he's got and the work he apparently puts in would put is in a great position transfer wise.

Bang on the money there, there's a lot of work to do before we can attract a higher calibre of manager. I fully expect Koeman to get us to that position.
Nail on head. We have to face facts and that is the managers we want can get better clubs, for now. But the fact that jose and emery are even meeting with us shows progress! Does anyone think they would have given us the decency of a reply for the job offer after moyes left?
We are on the up. Make no mistake but it's going to take time.

Anyone know what Koeman's policy on promoting youth is?

What a Southampton lad said last night on here about Koeman:

"He's a very good manager, quite clearly shown by the continued rise we've had under him. His lack of faith in our academy players has annoyed quite a few here and some of his Eredivisie transfers have been questionable to say the least. However, they are the only two negatives I can think of during his stint."

Aye. Not a long term signing by any means. But it's like signing ibrahimovic now. He is older but can still bring quality. Unless we have a perfect replacement for rom lined up then we can do worse than a goalscorer for under 20 million to fill the hole

Tbh, Bacca has been a bit poor at Milan. Still scored 16 though, but no where near the level he was at Sevilla.

At the same time though he has shown faith in the ones who have been good enough (Ward-Prowse, Targett, Reed). If he can get the best out of Barkley, Del and Stones (presuming only Rom leaves), then that's enough for me. Dowell and Davies will be in and around the first team as well, but no need to rush them through.
