I have to say I'm surprised at some of the angst about Koeman - he wouldn't have been my first choice, but he is experienced and knowledgeable and I would imagine will have the respect of the players.

He knows the league, which is important, and he will soon learn the expectations of the supporters.

Can't wait to see fat sammy on the touchline giving osman and cleverly instructions

Just been listening to the Echo podcast (it's been a very quiet day.) They were well up for the idea of him coming- had him down as "sound." Said he hasn't really been a disliked figure at Everton, but I've never been able to put up with him myself. Can't see it anyway- sure he was a Les Reed appointment.

To me reading most posts here and on Twitter and following @the esk test ac It seems that Koeman has been the no1 full stop. It's now time for some people to be realistic. We are not in the same money league as City Utd or Chelski. We are also catching up on other teams. No matter who came in as manager for the upcoming season a top 6 finish should be classed as success. Be under no illusions we were never getting Jose Pep Diego or anyone in that category. Koeman is not in their league but is still a major upgrade. It's time for everyone who loves our club to support the new Manager and Owner.

Although it's not always the best way to gauge a decision, I can guarantee you that if & when this happens, you'll see every ex pro/ pundit say this is a coup for us, and I'm with them on that. One thing they share is a knowledge of professional football unlike the people outside of the game, and they'll all say it's a great appointment, im sure of it

On Long, before Christmas Koeman shoehorned him into a winger, with Pelle up front, after Christmas we actually played him upfront, and he got 12-13 goals in half a season, and was our best player. Good player. We want silly money for him though.

Last season was one of the worst for me, my motivation and resentment of the team I loved playing the way they did and not caring and losing points in some of the most shocking ways changed my whole concept of supporting football and enjoyment of it. Now with an opportunity to bring back the NIL SATIS NI OPTIMUM and the create the love of our great team, it is an uninspiring choice, could he be brilliant? yes but we have a chance to get a real beast of a manager to kick ass and terrorise this league, I would nearly spend a lot more and get better managers out of contracts if possible, than to do it for koeman. The manager is the most important person of our team, it all gets direct from him, worth more than a 13m midfielder or attacker, so don't aim big and get mediocre aim big and spend and get big. Don't know who or who would want to come but this could be the most important signing to start the everton revival off

I suppose it's a little difficult for us to tempt someone like Emery, Mourinho or even Simeone (although I don't think we ever actually contacted him). The problem is that we can't offer them European football next season, all of those managers are at clubs in the champions league, we would be asking them to take a season out of Europe to try and crack into the champions league in one of the hardest leagues in the world. Yeah they'll have a big transfer budget but again will face the problem of trying to tempt champions league quality players to a club that aren't in Europe.
Koeman should get us at least into the Europa League next year, he's a solid appointment and plays safe football. He'll get some decent signings in and create a solid team. Then in 2 years he might end up jumping ship to Arsenal or something and leave us in a much stronger position than we are in now, then we can get an Emery or a Simeone when they can play in Europe and attract top quality players.
