The whole Koeman at Valencia thing, isnt that similar to what happened to Moyes at United? Players didn't like him or his methods so downed tools? Sometimes players at clubs like the captain are so ingrained in the club that they use that position to speak out against change because there so set in there ways or the previous manager treated them almost father-like.
Especially in Spain, The Club Captains are sometimes just as powerful as the managers , as we have seen at Real Madrid, Casillas tried a similar thing with Mourinho, when Mourinho said he was finished he undermined him, but Mourinho stuck to his guns and seems to me that Koeman did something similar at Valencia. Only a manager like Mourinho would be strong enough to drop a club legend like Casillas and come out on top. and if Koeman has a bit of that in him then thats a good thing. Moyes wasn't strong enough to overcome that united and clearly Martinez had very little discipline intact.

Koeman had a bad time in Valencia, but if he wants the Barca job hes going to have to redeem himself, if that drives him on at Everton, A club that has good links with Barcelona then that can only be positive for us.

th
Simple, my friend.

And axiomatic I should have thought, but there ya go.

It ain't where we started with Koeman, it is where we are when we are finished with him.

We had been hoping for Jose a week or two ago and when that failed to come off we lowered our sights to Emery and some forlornly hoped even Simeone was a possibility.

But the field was restricted in the end due to our lack of standing on the bigger stage and Ronald was the best we could attract.

Next time round we hope Ronald has upped our profile and if in the process he moves up to a higher level and we are looking for a new manager, then we will be more likely to lure whoever the most sought after managers du jour happen to be.

The "classier field" being managers then off a higher reputation and with a more successful pedigree than Ronald has now.

Just like City kept upping their standards and arrived at Pep via Mark Hughes, Roberto Mancini and Pellegrini.

They were never going to get the likes of Pep or Jose when they were looking for a manager in the early years of the Mansoor. revolution.

thats the key for me , we need a manager to take us in to the top four before we can dream of titles etc..Koeman is perfect IMO

Love to know what happened with Emery.... our ITK's said it was all but done on Wednesday. Did he pull out at the last minute forcing us to put in an offer that Koeman simply couldn't refuse. Did Koeman change his mind whilst sunning himself on holiday and prompt Everton to ruthlessly drop Emery. Or did Emery push his luck, make silly demands and we switched back to Koeman.

Then again maybe Emery was always dependant on us getting Monchi as well and if we couldn't get both our interest cooled. Anyone got any inside info on this?

Really hoping by some stroke of luck it was monchi who wanted RK or at least he agreed to working with him. In some ways the DoF will be much more important than who the manager is. He'll be the one spending the Moshiri money

I was under the impression that most manager and dof relationships were more collaborative over signings. Did Emery have no say in who Sevilla signed?

I'm sure he had some but Sevilla have had 8 managers since monchi arrived and won 9 trophies in that time. Points to his vision not any managers IMO.

Juande Ramos was one of them. Hasn't done much since. Parlayed that Sevilla success into jobs at Spurs and RM. With an equally ugly stint in Russia in between.

They have had :

1 July 2000 – 30 June 2005 Joaquín Caparrós
1 July 2005 – 26 Oct 2007 Juande Ramos ****
27 Oct 2007 – 23 March 2010 Manolo Jiménez
25 March 2010 – Sept 26, 2010 Antonio Álvarez
Sept 27, 2010 – 30 June 2011 Gregorio Manzano
1 July 2011 – 6 Feb 2012 Marcelino
7 Feb 2012 – 14 Jan 2013 Míchel
14 Jan 2013– Unai Emery ****

And only 2 won trophies, which points more to the managers IMO.

Ramos won Spurs their last trophy and managed Real Madrid after Sevilla, for the record.

Managing RM and being successful doing it are different things. Ramos did OK I guess.

Michel went to the best team in Greece and dominated a two team league. now moved to Marseille where he's been awful.

Marcelino has done OK at Villarreal. Aside from that not much for managers after leaving Sevilla.

As for trophies under monchi...
Spanish Cups ( 2007 and 2010)
Spanish Super Cup (2007)
Europa League/UEFA Cups (2006, 2007, 2014, 2015and 2016)
and the 2006 UEFA Super Cup

If your goal here is to say monchi isn't one of the best DoF out there I think you're way off base. Btw I'm not trying to discount Emery. He was my first choice manager. Just saying to me monchi is more important than whoever the manager is.

Has anyone looked at his past ffs?

One year at Southampton in the most bizaar league for years doesn't make you a footy god.

Look at his past ffs

Look at Southampton under potchatino by mile a better team.

The one thing moshiri has done so far is talk to the fans/no.

He employs a bang average (being nice here) manager!

Worried now? Me yes!

Worried? No. I don't see him relegating us. Enthused? Totally limp.
