I'm not saying it's rubbish, I'm saying it's not good enough at the moment, to match your ambition of getting top 6.
We've lost no one of real consequence since we finished 5th 2 years ago. Unfortunately since then we've been badly mismanaged. I don't think you'd find many pundits who wouldn't agree that our squad finished a good 4-5 places behind where it should have given the quality in it.

Guess what... That's why Martinez got sacked!! If he'd been finishing where the quality of our squad dictated, he wouldn't have lost his job.

Lol.

Lukaku
Barkley
Stones.

All valued at > 50 mil all < 24 years of age.

Now tell me you wouldn't exchange your whole squad for just those three players.

Add to that we have Jagielka, Baines, Coleman, Barry, McCarthy, Lennon, Deulafeu and a shedload of talented youngsters.
The combined XI, would be Forster, Coleman, Stones (close with Fonte), Van Dijk, Bertrand (closeish with Baines) Wanyama, Mccarthy, Mane, Barkley, Tadic, Lukaku.
I count that as 6 Saints players and 5 Everton, although you could argue it could be 5-6. If were talking about a squad, I don't really know enough about your squad depth, but saints have Long, J-rod, Steven Davis, Clasie, Ward-Prowse, Charlie Austin and Pelle, which I would assume is atleast as strong if not better than Evertons squads depth.

One result doesn't define a season. We beat Arsenal, City, United, Chelsea, Spurs and the scousers, it doesn't mean we have a better squad than them.
One result doesn't define a season, you're right. But league placing alone doesn't automatically define the quality of a squad. If it DOES, then that means your squad is better than Chelsea. Which it quite plainly is not.

I agree, you have a lot of potential in your squad, but behind Lukaku (if he stays) you haven't got many options, your well stocked in midfield, and your defence should be much better than it performs. However I still think if you want to be up there next season for Europe/ Champions league you need to strengthen, because you can't rely on Koeman to fix everything in one season.
I think we'll sell Lukaku, wouldn't be surprised if we sold all our striker options and started again. Having a striker in front of Mirallas/Barkley/Deulofeu is a good attack though IMO. Midfield is alright, back four is fine if we add in some back ups, either Stones or Funes Mori can start next to Jags and Baines and Coleman are both top fullbacks. Then we need a new starting GK.

So I guess striker and goalkeeper are a must plus top replacements for any sales.

I agree it's not perfect, but it's a better indicator than most. Over the course of 38 games last season, our squad managed to get the sixth highest point total, while we don't have the sixth best squad, we can't be a million miles away.

'kin hell, we may as well give up lads.
