Stoke, are 9th, as was pointed out. But only 4 pts separates them from 5th. We're as close to them as they are to 5th and Man Utd! If that Stoke team had someone like Lukaki in it, they'd be challenging for CL spots. They've just been short of goals.

Who would improve us, seriously and realistically?

Mourinho, Guardiola? Would we get them? Probably not, although a takeover and promise of spends may persuade Jose. That's quite a chain of events that needs to happen though.

So are we left with the 'rent a boss' gang? Hughes, Bruce, Allardyce etc. No thanks. Personally I'm not sure the final league position would alter with those.

So what's the answer? Or who, rather? Duncan? Maybe enthusiasm would make up for experience, or he'd be a car crash. The game has moved on since (the ace) Joe Royle, and Moyes coming back may not be the success some are suggesting.

The answer is to go for someone in the top bracket. But as you say, that needs ambition at the top, something we will probably never have.

Absolutely. I just wish those that mattered showed same ambition as the fans, and those who previously led us. If we had ambition, roberto would rightly have been shown the door a while back.
