"Martinez is a good manager"
"Martinez is a good fit for the club"

Havent said either of those things unless were talking a long time ago.

What i said was:

1-- I'd like to see what he could do with money behind him as hes made some good signings

2-- I can see what hes been trying to achieve but not had the resources to cover all areas (our wage bill is 9-11th in the league and our spend is also mid table)

I also said id give him a chance in summer to strengthen and see how he does next season first.

However after Southampton and the Derby i've changed my mind.
haha sure mate.

We have had a pro vs anti martinez discussion recently, considering how few of the pro martinez fans were left on here, hard to forget who they are.

nothing wrong with changing your opinion though, not having a go or anything

What makes him so good? His transfers have been shockingly bad with unlimited cash....they havent done well in the league this season...he's hardly a motivator...not sure what he could say was a triumph at city ?

He's got the respect of a squad jam packed with mercenaries. He would immediately get the respect of our dressing room and he would teach the hard work aspects of the game to Barkley and especially Deleoufeu. He's got unbelievable talent but needs taught how to maximise it and another spanish speaking manager will help him. He's a former Real Madrid manager, he basically resurrected Villareal as a club, he's got City into the last 4 of the CL despite being undermined by the Guardiola appointment and he's won two cups at City.

Ohhh and most importantly he's a title winner.

As if the person specification of our new manager will state: must be able to oversee a footballing dynasty in which we conquer all for a minimum of five years. The manager's objective will remain the same... Just get us in the bloody Champions League! I think Pellegrini could manage that!

Not sure how youve got that from what i posted...

Pellegrini i would hope wouldnt even be in contention.

Vault me then....as thats what ive been saying for 2months.

Thats still the wrong question.

Which manager can build a dynasty and achieve success like we had in the 80s ?

Pellegrini - Couldnt do it at City
AVB -- Zenit fans dont like him nor Spurs/Chelsea
Koeman - Track record isnt great.

Mourinho if he focuses long term or a De Boer or similar are much better options.

Nice to see you are coming round on De Boer mate ;) .

The list above, Pellegrini would for me be an awful option. He is barely keeping Manchester City in the top 4 having spent hundreds of millions. Won 1 league title in 3 years and in all honesty that was almost gifted to him by a Liverpool. He is 62 now, not really played youth very often and after 1 big pay day. I don't think he is the man to move us forward long term and it smacks of Walter Smith, a huge no for me.

AVB I see differently. Fans don't seem to like him, I didn't know Zenith didn't like him. I can understand why Chelsea don't, that was too big a job for such a young man. Spurs I think his record is better than he is given credit for. His signings have proven to be very good and he began a transition that I have little doubt Pochetino has benefitted from. He may not be the best manager but I do think he is a natural fit. Young manager, wants his teams to play with high intensity and a disciplinarian. We will need all of those things going forward!

I wrote positively about AVB a couple of days ago but, while I think he is an interesting option, I'm not sure that someone like Pellegrini wouldn't be a better fit for the next couple of years. The Everton job is very different to the city one, and he has proven himself capable of taking a team from mid-table into the Champions League places with more than one club.

De Boer i wrote off as Cocu seems to have done a better job at PSV.

However, looking at the sides he has put together they play the right way and he gives responsibility to young players who become internationals...also cant argue with his record over the first 4 years at Ajax.

My only concern with him is that cruyff built the management and coaching team there. Could De Boer build his own team or can he bring his team with him?

Overmars
bergkamp
Stam
r.de boer

etc etc...

If we could attract all of them then that is a really exciting management and coaching team.

Also some of the dutch players like Riedewald, Bazoer, Janssen would be more than welcome!!

i'd rather habe martinez next season than Pelligrini.

I think it would be better to judge Pellegrini on his work at Villarreal and and Malaga, or at least take it into consideration. He improved both teams dramatically in the league and got each into the CL knockout stages. His time at City hasn't been perfect, of course, but he's undoubtedly a talented coach.

He spent a fortune at malaga....

AVB? The players would be walking all over him by the end of his first season.

That is true. I am just not sure about his age now mate. He did the business in Spain but has struggled in England and underachieved at City. He looks like a manager on the way down.

Alongside this he had a lot of money to spend at Malaga. We are talking about manager who performed well nearly a decade ago at Villareal. For me it's a no. I see nothing from that Manchester City team that makes me think he will turn Everton around and build a dynasty.

You want everton to take a risk and gamble on a younger manager for the incredible small chance we might get a Alex ferguson? Everton have got some great youth players and Ross barkley I feel excited by all that but give up this notion of longevity it's impossible! Due to the trappings of modern football

I guess AVB is the most sensible choice if you want to go young

In all honesty there is very little to choose between Cocu and De Boer. I suppose I think De Boer has won the league more often, but Cocu has won it more recently. Both have developed some fantastic young players.

I don't think he could attract if any of the names above unfortunately. One of the great things at Ajax is they build a loyalty to the club not the manager. All of the above will stay, even lads like Van Der Saar are involved in the marketing. I hope we could do something similar here.

I don't really worry as much about the backroom staff. We have a solid structure at Everton. Sheedy does brilliantly with the under 18's while Unsworth has done well with the under 21's. While I wouldn't advocate all 3 being central figures there is probably room to move at least one of them up with an eye for developing the young players and giving them a familiar face. Perhaps bringing in one coach/figure from Ajax would help the transition alongside the experience we already have at Everton.

I hope De Boer could develop that infrastructure. We have started to keep our ex players involved much better but we could still do more. David Weir (if he's still out of work) should be involved and I would love to see Cahill back in some capacity. if Unsworth/Sheedy move up keeping lads like Osman/Hibbert to help with the younger lads would be a positive for the club.

I like Pelligrini.

However not sure at all if he is right for us.

I want a manager who can:
1. Motivate the players and have them fired up for games
2. Organise a team so each player knows what they are supposed to do.
3. Promote an attractive style of play.
4. Improve players
5. Plays young players and trusts them
6. Has an eye for a bargain in the transfer market
