Pellegrini doesn't convince me tbh why has he failed quite badly when trying to step up a level ala Madrid and city. His last best tenure was years ago at villareal.

SF of the CL this season
Premiership title 2 years ago
CL QF with Malaga 3 years ago
Qualified for the CL with Malaga 4 years ago

Failed quite badly at City, errm what is regarded as the most competitive league in football he has won one league, 2 cups in 3 seasons and reached a CL semi

I refer to within English football as well.

He's won something every year I think at City?

There is not one manager I imagine who has won more than him since he arrived at City.

The fact that only Arsenal and Chelsea from the ' big four' won stuff within that period underlines just how difficult it is to win trophies now days irrespective of what club your at or the resources you have.

I think your being overly harsh and think he would be a real coup.

Look at the groups he has had in the Champions League too; elite top level clubs in each season. City still a baby in European competition.

City had been in the competition every year and he failed to get them out of the groups. In all honesty for the club he's at winning league cups is a complete irrelevance so discount them. We then have 1 league title in 3 years. It is a modest record.

However it is the way they have played in that time. They stumbled across the line to win the league. In the following two seasons they look badly exposed at the back and despite having spent overwhelmingly more than anyone else seem to lack discipline and shape. I worry that a side without the resources he had at City and one without Kompany, Ageuro, Toure, Silva (all of them he inherited) will be able to arrest the decline under Martinez.

To me he has Walter Smith written all over him. Used to working with big name players and had won some trophies but completely the wrong fit. In many ways it would be a coup but it doesn't change any of the concerns. I struggle to see much from his time at City which would make me think he will overcome the flaws we have.

I'm going to talk Koeman up

He won the title with Ajax and then also won the title with a different club PSV.

His win rate is good
54% from all clubs
He done one bad season with valancia but all managers have a bad season. This is how they learn but the rest pretty good.

He got premiership experience, he also won alot as a player so is a big name in football.

His signings have been good for Southampton
Forster
Mane
Tadic
Pelle
Dijk

The issue we have is would he leave Southampton, well yes the board always sell their best players and another concern is he doesn't seem to stay around to long at one club but maybe he not found his love yet.

He very honest with the fans as well and admit to his mistakes

I think the thing to take into consideration is who did they face the other 2 times in getting knocked out of the CL. Pretty sure it was Barca who I think have only been knocked out by Atletico twice.

Pulled off a great win at Bayern if memory serves me correct.

Not saying he is absolutely world class but for me Pellegrini would have us right up there challenging the top 4 immediately, conducts himself well and I think would hit the ground running.

Bayern played them off the park. I think he might have won a dead rubber for Bayern in the return leg. I just don't see it at all with Pellegrini and us getting top 4. He is barely finishing top 4 having spent huge amounts of money and inherited a side good enough to win the league.

My new but not so new and maybe predictable short list -

De Boer, Pelligrini, AVB, Mancini and Favre.

2 already known to be leaving their clubs end of season, AVB and Pelligrini....1 out of work presently, Favre, 2 a really big clubs who may fancy a new challenge for different reasons De Boer and Mancini.

Very exciting names.

As for the Pelligrini doubters - what did you expect him to do at City exactly? win every game, every trophy and go unbeaten forever? No, obviously not! so why use that as a negative against him in his time at Man City? we know the premier league is very competitive, the fact they gave him the job also shows how highly he was regarded and he has won a trophy in every season.

Just because you pay 50m for a player it doesn't mean he is worth that, so forget who they have in their squad, it's getting the best out of what you have at the end of the day. He is currently in the second leg of a CL semi with a blank canvas with Man City, having won a trophy already this season and is still in the top 4, that's hardly underachieving.

Failed spectacularly in Spain, is no more than so so at Southampton, always looking ahead to other jobs

I know you're dismissing winning trophies but you can't just completely dismiss his success prior to City either.

He's tried and tested with big and little clubs, rich or not and plays football how it should be played with a great eye for a player whilst always conducting himself well.

Had Dortmund/Real in first group stage.
Bayern in next; knocked out by Barca in last 16
Bayern and Roma the next year; knocked out by Barca.
Had Juve/Sevilla in group this year and knocked out Paris thus far.

Hardly a disgrace getting knocked out by Barca both times.

I am not trying to dismiss winning trophies at all mate. However the league cup is an irrelevance to big teams. He has won the league and deserves credit for that (which I've given him). I suppose what I've said though, if you scratch beneath the surface a little, you see his league win and the subsequent two years have exposed a worrying trend that I am not sure will reverse our decline.

We are bad at defending and not fit enough. We are also soft centred and bottle big games/derby games. These traits are all true of Pelligrini. His derby record is awful. Without Kompany they look wide open defensively.

He did a fantastic job at Villareal, but I do worry that was a little time ago.

No it's not a disgrace, but in honesty it's hardly a big success either. He had comparable resources to Barca. Also he'd have avoided a Barca if they'd have won their groups which he failed to do.

I am not having, 1 semi final in 3 years given the money they have spent is "success". In Moyes's only season in the champions league he got further than Pelligrini managed in 2 of his 3 seasons. People can make all the excuses they want, that's simply not good enough.

Leading Ajax to Dutch titles while not playing particularly good football and being rubbish in Europe is just not a good enough CV to take Everton to top 4 for me. Not to mention we have no idea how much he relies on his backroom staff and how many of them would come.
