I like the de Boer shouts. However can we get him in a few years. Get Jose in to manage us for 3 years, win us the league and then sack us off? I want some short-term success alá Chelsea and City with their takeovers.

Hey Mourinho is who I voted for. De Boer is if, in all likelihood Mourinho bins us off and Tuchel doesn't fancy it!

key thing for me with pellegrini is what control he had over transfers..as city have bought some right old nonsense

my other worry is that he consistently plays jesus navas..

Who has done better than him in the last few years in England?

He's bettered Jose, LVG , Wenger

It's a fair point. is that down to English teams underachieving as well though? I mean Moyes's Manchester United team even got to the quarter finals and they were awful. Wenger has also never been knocked out at the group phases has he?

For the money City have spent, in line with the top European teams I don't think 1 semi final in 3 years would be considered good enough. It may be better than other English managers, but they have underachieved as well and that's why most of them haven't remained in a job, as ultimately it would be considered failure.

You make a good point. I voted Mourinho, but of the realistic options it's De Boer all day long for me. So it seems only fair to out a bit of a defence.

1) Age: He is for me still a good age to join us. I like the idea of Everton having longer term managers. He still has a number of good years at the top, but is also quite experienced.

2) Team Development: I think, probably more than any of his competitors he has shown the ability to develop young players. He worked beforehand at the Ajax academy with Vertongen, Eriksen etc and moved them up to the first team. This is the sort of manager I've wanted for Everton, one who can continue to improve our young side, make astute signings and develop young players. In my view it is the best way for us to compete at the top end.
I also think where we are as a squad, (I know some will leave) but Stones, Lukaku, Barkley, Deulofeu, Besic, Galloway would all benefit from having a manager who can develop young talent. I think he fits that bill perfectly.

3) Trophies: As a player and a manager he has won numerous trophies. I think he can get is over the line for trophies as it won't be a huge mental block for him. He has won 4 Dutch leagues in a row, he may well add his 5th in 6 seasons. People will rightly say he has more money than others, but Ajax had gone 6/7 years without winning the league when he took over. Alongside that, take his nearest competitor Pellegrini, he had a similarly big budget compared to his challengers at Real Madrid and City. He has won 1 league in 4 seasons and that was dubiously handed to him that storming over the line.

I know people quote his "record points total" but in the end that means nothing, people remember trophies. Martinez got our record points. In the end it means nothing, trophies are everything. De Boer has shown he can handle the expectation of being a favourite and deliver, more so than Pellegrini has done who has achieved it only 1 season in 4.

4) Backroom staff/identity. You can't help but be moved by his Ajax backroom staff. I think we will struggle to bring them all over as I think their loyalty will be to Ajax not De Boer. However even if we got 1 or 2 out of Overmars, De Boer, Stam, Van Der Saar etc. I think that would be a massive coup for us and would benefit our players. I also like the idea getting ex players involved, giving the club a clear identityand I think with possibly Unsworth/Sheedy with Ferguson we might be able to build on it in a similar way.

5) (A Negative) Lack of exposure: He has only managed in the Dutch league. It is a weak league (but in many ways a good league for us, as it's a league that focusses on young players which is where we are as a squad). Ultimately we wouldn't be able to attract a manager who has won 4 consecutive titles in a better league. His Ajax teams have also had some ok results in Europe, including beating Manchester City (maybe under Pellegrini?).

Overall I would love us to find our Pochetino. He seems the closest to that. I don't think Pellegrini is an inferior manager, but I think De Boer is a much better fit for our squad and the money we have to spend.

outstanding post and endorsement of a really strong candidate

Pelligrini is just a slightly better Martinez. No defence, and if plan A doesn't work they very rarely pick up a result. One name that I haven't seen mentioned is Unai Emery. Sevilla manager, plays a similar style to Martinez but quicker and with passion. Plus, experience in Europe and keeping good form over a league season too.

I think the thing to take into consideration is who did they face the other 2 times in getting knocked out of the CL. Pretty sure it was Barca who I think have only been knocked out by Atletico twice.

Pulled off a great win at Bayern if memory serves me correct.

Not saying he is absolutely world class but for me Pellegrini would have us right up there challenging the top 4 immediately, conducts himself well and I think would hit the ground running.

He is miles better than Martinez and I think someone posted his defensive stats for all of the clubs he's managed and they were pretty decent and certainly one of the best in the premier league.

I refer to within English football as well.

He's won something every year I think at City?

There is not one manager I imagine who has won more than him since he arrived at City.

The fact that only Arsenal and Chelsea from the ' big four' won stuff within that period underlines just how difficult it is to win trophies now days irrespective of what club your at or the resources you have.

I think your being overly harsh and think he would be a real coup.

Look at the groups he has had in the Champions League too; elite top level clubs in each season. City still a baby in European competition.

When I think of the names in the poll and other suggestions by posters, I wonder considering our last two seasons would any of them want to be our new manger?

Disagree mate. You can look at how he conducts himself, how he gets his team playing and how those are relevant to everton.

He's got ajax winning back t back titles again for the first time in a while, he has brought through numerous youth players and has his team playing very solidly, also did quite well in europe at the same time.

Who would your choice be?

11/12 CL group stage 3rd with 8 points, went into the Uefa and knocked out by Man Utd in their first game - round of 32
12/13 CL group stage 3rd with 4 points, went into the Uefa knocked out in their first game round of 32 by Steaua
13/14 CL group stage - came 3rd with 8 points, went into the Uefa knocked out in their first game by Red Bull Salzburg
14/15 CL group stage - came 3rd with 5 points, went into the Uefa beat Legia then knocked out by Dnipro in the round of 16.
15/16 CL - knocked out in the Qualifier by Rapid Viena, dropped into the Uefa group stage and came 3rd and thus did not qualify for the knockout rounds (finishing behind Molde and Fernerbahce)

Sorry mate, but under no circumstances whatsoever have Ajax done well in Europe under FDB, 5 years never once qualified past the group stage, once failed to qualify for the CL in the playoff - averaged 6 points per CL group over those 4 years.
Record in Uefa is going out the first game 3 times, the second game they played 1 time, and not progressing through a group the 5th time.

De Boer with Stam and Bergkamp coming with him would be boss!

stam can work with Stones etc and imagine what bergkamp would do with Barkley Gerry and Rom, legendary player who can tell them what they should be doing, what things to look out for and most of all give them better training when it comes to touch and finishing!

Make it happen bill if you're a blue!!

Martinez is not even in the same galaxy as Pelligrini mate.
