They rely hugely upon Kompany to do that though, just to balance that out.

Last night was a perfect example.

First 10 minutes they were pressing high and preventing any space for Modric, Ronaldo, Bale etc.

As soon as Kompany went off they were out of shape and their pressing game fell apart.

To me, it shows that if you're going to play the pressing game effectively, you need a leader on the pitch to do so. It's something we don't have.

Spurs have it in Vertonghen, Leicester in Morgan even, with Drinkwater also stepping up...
that is a weakness aye, especially when kompany is injury prone it seems. I think (relating to the below) that City have bought idealistically and it is the defence that has suffered the most from that. Generally they don't concede that many goals though despite this which is a huge plus point for any potential new manager i think.

I think a lot of Pellegrini's signings are largely bought by the club rather than him though, would have to ask a city fan where the lines blur on that. So Mangala and Otemendi were both highly thought of when they were signed, sterling a young english player for the next 10 years, bony technically was a good back up etc. SO going on his transfers it is hard to judge who he would bring in and who were bought for him.

This silence must just mean his faith has already been decided. But still it leaves us fans in a nasty limbo...should we keep protesting even more (just to be safe) or just play down it a bit just to save Martinez from total humiliation.

What kind of protesting do you have in mind, mate?

Lot of anti Pellegrini sentiments after last night, and yet I have a feeling he's the most likely to be our new manager. Overpaid mercenaries have downed tools for his this year and his record elsewhere is very good.

If De Boer had (successful) experience in another league to add to the Eredivisie, he would be the perfect candidate. I am uneasy about him as its impossible to assess his credentials based on his time with Ajax.

At the end of the day, if the board have/are conducting an exhaustive process (I certainly hope so) and he comes out on top, then I'll certainly get behind him.

I think Pellegrini is likeliest, and whilst I have stated previously that I am happy for him to get the job, I must admit that my enthusiasm for him is waning a bit. Not based on last night/this season, but I do agree with those who have said we need a manager with a bit of edge, a snide even, someone vocal, who can be seen fighting for the team almost, in the Simeone sense. The squad at present almost resembles a group of errant teenagers desperately waiting for someone to come in and inspire them and unequivocally let them know who is boss.

Pelligrini IMO would be the safest option.

Then if you want a bit of mystery and a venture into what could be, AVB, Mancini and Favre fall into that category.

Then there is the Mourinho enigma, he could come in and with Moshri change the whole mindset of the football club, that would be the most exciting one.

If this is in any way true, Man Utd are kidding themselves.

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December
Former Chelsea boss Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

But Van Gaal declared he will be in charge of the Red Devils next season after Sunday's 1-1 draw with Premier League champions Leicester.

According to the Sun, United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward does not want to get rid of Van Gaal just yet.

And he has asked Mourinho to wait a year before replacing the Dutchman.

Woodward had hoped the Portuguese would opt for a lucrative 12-month spell in the Chinese Super League ahead of a move to Old Trafford.

However Mourinho wants to be back in football this summer, and does not want to wait much longer before getting back to work.

I read this online a few days ago and it was repeated on TalkSport this morning, if it is true we should be swooping in and sign him up. Get him in before the season ends and before the Euro's begin. We are going to need our new manager to secure the best of the existing playing staff, plus sign a few key new players. I dont think we should wait until after the Euro's for, someone like Joachim Low, it does not give the manager enough time to accurately assess the players, evaluate transfer targets and get them in

I can't believe that to be true. Surely no football club can be run so negligent of any rationality?

They appointed Moyes and see Giggs as the natural heir to ferguson mate.

Don't be too surprised at anything they do really

Oh yeah and after the disaster of the Moyes appointment they then hire a manager the following summer who was away at the World Cup until just before the season kicked off - giving him little time with the squad etc, United aren't being run by football people anymore and it shows

Koeman linked with Arsenal if Wenger goes. Eddie Howe also coming out this week with "My Everton dream - and how I started supporting the blues", trying to put himself in the shop window for us.

I just want a proven winner who can motivate, puts winning over performances and wants to take us back to the top.
