Am I right in thinking Koeman has a year left on his current contract? And that he has said he will honour this contract to the end?

Perhaps I'm making that up in my head but I'm certain I've seen something to that effect.

He has a year left, the club have said he is free to leave, they are giving it the "We would never keep somebody here that doesnt want to be here".

A joke of a club.

I think Pellegrini could be the safest option.I'd still like De Boer but this would be his first job outside of the Dutch league.Koeman's CV is okay and he's done a decent albeit pretty Moyes like job with Southampton. So long as it's not a Rafael Benitez or a Martin O'Neill. That's the main thing.

Maybe ask a few Southampton fans on one of their forums and see what they think of him. I'm sure they're very happy with him as he's done an excellent job, but I don't know much about specific positives/negatives. I doubt you'll get any great answers on here.

Some Southampton opinions:

I can see Koeman leaving at some point to manage the Dutch side, Barcelona, Man U etc but Everton? hahaha why would he want to go there? He has MUCH better options.

Seriously, if we lost him to that shambles it suggests the club is just going through the motions - with soundbites.

No way will he go to Everton unless Southampton Football Club sacked him.

I do NOT for 1 second believe Koeman would leave us for Everton.

They do seem to regard him highly. They also seem to regard themselves highly. Let's take him from them. And then take their women.

he'd be the absolute worst appointment out of our real candidates.

Only manager i know whose side leaks nearly as many goals as martinez.. at a much bigger level.

Fall outs with players and chairmen. Not always ended up in him leaving, mind.

And we've got one btw, he completely dismissed Deulofeu last season.
Can you be a bit more specific re players and chairmen? He challenged Deulofeu to be more of a team player and to work harder, whilst acknowledging his talent and you know what he was bang on.

I don't think it'll be Koeman, but there are levels of Jedi-esque ITKism going on on here that suggest it will be. So, if it is him, who can we expect as signings? I'd like him to bring Wanyama with him.

I'd prefer Clasie actually. Think he'll be a top player next season or shortly after. Just a hunch, I dunno, I like the way he plays and he's got his first season of adjustment out of the way.

When I first read of the Koeman stuff earlier this week after Esk posted it I was a little bit underwhelmed.

As the week has gone on I have warmed to it more. If we don't take Koeman now, he will end up in a top job sooner rather than later if he carries on like he has been doing with Southampton.

As Evertonians who are passionate, we turn our noses up at people we think aren't good enough for our ambitions for the club which is only natural, we are all very precious about our club. But outside of Everton he is perceived as very decent, and let's be honest, in 2 seasons in England he has finished above us both times.

As already posted by others, he has basically lost the majority of his best players each season yet is still looking like he has secured European football for them again.

Maybe he could bring in Fraser Forster, now that would be a coup!

The only manager who could come in and change the mentality overnight though is still Mourinho, but that's just too good to be true.

So, for me Koeman is less of a gamble than De Boer or Cocu. He knows the league, seems to have an eye for a player and I am sure if the likes of Stones stays, he will be learning off one of the best defenders in Europe over the last 20 years. He was a sublime footballer and commands respect for his achievements.

In no particular order here are managers who we'd want that I think we actually stand a chance of getting:

Frank de Boer
Ronald Koeman
Manuel Pellegrini
Walter Mazzarri
Unai Emery - biggest "if" from that list.

Mourinho is a pipe dream, and the rest from the above list I hope we don't even bother looking at.

edit: I mean from the above poll in the thread
