You're overestimating our own current stature within the European game if you don't think Emery wouldn't think himself capable of taking a bigger step...

Are we back to that whole discussion on whether we're ambitious or not?

If we don't try, we will not know what he thinks. For all we know, he might find the setup more conducive than Sevilla or any of the "bigger clubs". He's a smart guy, he knows good setups and poisoned chalices and I don't see many better easy setups around Europe.

Oh, I read a lot of media reports that he had one year left, they also said that on Talksport.

I must have misread that somewhere then. Could have sworn I saw the headline 'Deborrleta contract end' or something. Either way if they've 'ripped up' the contract compensation will be little to nothing.

cocu , de boer or Gallardo

Not sure where the 2 year shelf life comes from. First time around he wanted to carry on at Chelski. What could he not like about living on Merseyside?
Porto 2002-2004
Chelsea 2004-2007
Inter 2008-2010
Real 2010-2013
Chelsea 2013-2015

I didn't do exact dates but the ones showing three years were actually only 2 1/2 seasons. He isn't a manager who stays somewhere long term. The relationship sours close to the second year and he leaves or is let go. Great manager but comes with lots of attitude and drama.

Jose didn't really have an unlimited chequebook at Inter nor with his 2nd spell at Chelsea. Still won Big Pots.

If by not spending a lot you mean the over £60 million in the summer of 2013 and an additional £44.5 during that winter's window, that's fine.

Add to that an additional £85.3 during summer of 2014, followed by £23.3 during the winter window.

I'm not doubting his ability as a manager, far from it. He's one of the best in the world, and has been for more than a decade. I'm just saying that he wouldn't even consider walking into a side that wasn't prepared to spend vasts amount of money every window, or already had a fantastic team to work with in the first place, like at Inter.

Other than Porto, he's walked into clubs that have handed him an unlimited cheque book with squads that were already near and/or of a Champions League level.

Do you really see him taking on a "rebuilding" job, as in our case? The biggest challenge I'd bet he'd be willing to take on would be winning the CL with PSG - again, with unlimited funds at his disposal.

What rebuilding is that mate.

We sit 12th in the table, 6 points ahead of 17th Sunderland who just barely escaped. There are a few players to shift on as well that just aren't up to scratch if we ever want to amount to anything. We don't need that many new players, but a rebuilding job it is nonetheless.

You've just said we don't need that many new faces, it is nowhere near a rebuilding job, the new manager will obviously not like some players and want to bring in his own but that's the same as every other manager who takes a new job.
