Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested on The Scum Goals Podcast that leaving Southampton for Everton would not be a step-up for Ronald Koeman.

Koeman has been in charge of Southampton since the summer of 2014 and has a contract with the Premier League outfit until June 2017.

Everton are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Roberto Martinez from Goodison Park last week.

According to a recent report in The Daily Mail, Everton are interested in appointing Koeman as the new boss.

Former Arsenal striker Wright has suggested that the Toffees would not be able to match the ambitions of the Dutchman.

The former England international has also claimed that leaving the Saints for Everton would not be a step-up in his managerial career for Koeman.

“If he leaves to go to Everton, can Everton match his ambitions?”

“In this day and age, from what I saw under Martinez, I am not sure it is,” added the Englishman when asked if leaving Southampton for Everton would be a step-up.

Southampton finished above Everton in the Premier League table this season and will play in the Europa League during the 2016-17 campaign. It would be best for Koeman if he remains at St. Mary’s Stadium for one more season."

This is really starting to get on my tits. It's not just the Saints fans laughing at us thinking they're a better bet, Wilkins, Ian Wright and plenty of others think the same way too. Is this how far we've fallen?

Wright says "in this day and age, from what I saw under Martinez I don't think it is a step up"

Yes Ian, it's BECAUSE of Martinez. How many agreed that the squad was the best we've had for many a year? If it was a mid table squad then Martinez would still be here because he'd have done his job, got us to mid table.

But it isn't a mid table squad is it that's why Martinez has been sacked for badly underachieving.

I despair.

He's saying that because he wants him to replace Wenger at Arsenal you can tell, he knows they can take him off Southampton but stand little chance of doing the same to us.

Ian wright's opinion of Everton is small club with no ambition. You can't blame him for that, as that is how we have operated for 15 years under Bill.

However, we can onl hope that people like him are seriously going to have their noses put out of joint when Mr Moshri starts getting serious!

I'm loving it actually, they've all pigeon holed us and they don't realise things are about to change, so put downs these days are quite enjoyable, they'll come back to haunt them all.

Koeman coming here is NOT a step up for him.

Him coming here is an opportunity to go further than he can do where he is. Massive rebuilding job thst needs to be done here before we can realistically challenge up there again, so all the so called pundits are correct thst he wouldn't be moving up by joining us. Hell even on 10 years experience we on par with the performances he has got out of his Southampton team.

Not really arsed how much money we have, need to rebuild ourselves first.

Hope it's their put downs that come back to haunt them - not posts like yours (and lots of others) that come back to haunt us

Can someone please lend the Mosh 50p so he can call Mourinho? Or could we have a whip round?
Failing which, Van Gaal is planning to be in the North West for at least 2 more years, if he is signing on soon. He would've been much more fun over last season if people had not always been doing him about being fired, rather than footie.
A proven Dutchman we could fly with?

Please god no! Can't abide the Frankenstein-looking beaut

As far as the media are concerned it was :
Liverpool, Arsenal and Utd.
Then ,
Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd and Chelsea
Then
Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea and City.
next
Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea, City and maybe Spurs and/or West Ham.

They have not looked at the bigger picture, they think that Leicester winning the league was a novelty, a once off event, not to be repeated.

I think they are missing the bigger picture which is the vast amounts of money pouring into football, there are no more small clubs, they are all very wealthy. Even the so called small premiership clubs can compete for top players with the giant clubs in other European leagues.

The playing field has levelled. Mourinho saw it when he said last August that the title would be won with fewer points than before and that trend will continue.
So, a club like Everton was going to be able to compete anyway because of the extra money in football and of course there will be the additional Moshiri effect. We don't know yet really what that will be. The first indication will be the appointment of a new manager.

We have seen the names mentioned and some or all may do a good job but only one will stop the presses and force the media to reconsider the current staus of Everton FC.

To be honest mate, the media's (not that am arsed anyways) opinion is that bad of us that they think it would be a shock if we got Koeman.

I think there is so much going on behind the scenes to make a splash and show we aren't "plucky little everton" anymore, realistically Mourinho would be the one to make the world go "oh my god everton are back"... however i think a good appointment and some good signings we will shock a few people.

That being said, i am currently in the chair getting Mourinhos grid tattood on my chest with EFC on his fod... if he doesnt come, i might have to sell the pictures.
